It keeps getting warmer, this race for positions on the republican state ticket. Viewing from the state capital these various positions and candidates, the race seems to be a walkaway for some while others are having a hard time to receive much, if any recognition. For the office of lieutenant gover- nor there are enough candidates in the field to supply the entire republi- can ticket. Among those receiving the larger amount of newspaper comment are Gates and Cole. Some- body got a “hunch” that Hibbing, the popular range town, is to spring a new man for this place soon. Just who it 1s to be is not known but if he's worthy let him come forward, the more the merrier. For the state treasurership there has been enough names mentioned to give both parties a man for each office, and then some. If there is one man who has gained more strength than any of the others, and who has received much favor- able comment, even from the most conservative forces, he is A. Kaiser of Bagley. Some believe that it is a “cut and dried” proposition to place his name on the republican slate. The Bagley candidate’s strength seems to be one of the high trump cards upon which other office seekers would like to depend. Northern Minnesota is going to get something out of the convention, that’s conceeded all over the state. The southern portion of the state doubtless figures it this way: give to northern Minnesota what is easiest for them to get, and for which they get the most in return. They figure, that not only the north will be solid for Kaiser but that he has a strong following in the south as well, For making big money, there: is: nothing in the- investment world. today that will bear comparison for a moment with the opport:nities afforded by California. oil stocks, Dozens-and scores. of these stocks; are se'ling today for many. times the prices.at which they were origi- nally placed on the market. In the advances of the past year many of them: have- yielded profits of several hundred per cent to in- vestors. . In production- and earnings- the oil wells have: distanced the gold mines. Thousands of people enjoying a competence.- today owe their good.. fortune-to- moderate investments in California oil. By still other thousandsthe suc- cesses of the past will be duplicated during the present year. Now. don’t be a pessimist and say. that this is. impossible. Facts are: facts, and if you only take the trouble. to look into same, you will find that this is true. The writer came across a beanti- ful article some time ago.entit'ed “The Optimist versus the Pessimist., Read it. It 'won't hurt you. DULUTH THERE WITH “THE G00DS.” It is probable that a trainlcad of delegates to the Crookston conven- tion of the Northern Minnesota Development association will be in that city June 1, 2 and 3 from Duluth aud St Louls county. John G. Williams and W. A. McGonagle will be the official representatives of Duluth, with voting power. The delegates from this part of the state will travel on a special train, according to plans now under consideration, and at Crookston the train will be sidetracked and used as a lodging place for the St. Louis county visitors. President Hearding of the St. Louis county club, which is the cen- tral organization of commercial and farmers’ clubs throughout this county, has received advices from many of the groups which indicate 7 that the country and range people are taking the liveliest interest in the coming convention. President Hearding sent to every one of the organizations a circular letter advis- ing them of the arrangements made for the representation of the county at Crookston, and replies have been received from numbers of them, but quite a few remain to be heard from, The information he has received led Mr. Hearding to give Eveleth three instead of two delegates, as at first allotted, Virginia the same, Hibbing the same, and Biwabik two instead of one. These delegates will possess voting power, and besides them there will be many others from all of the points along the line. The increased representation is due to the inability of some of the smaller clubs to send their apportioned delegations. Two auto loads of enthusiastic boosters for the development of Northern Minnesota will make the trip to Crookston. Hibbing is cer- tain to send a large delegation, Eveleth and Virginia will contribute generous quotas, and individuals and groups of members of clubs affliated with the county organiza. tion will be there.
