Doctors Rushed to'the Scene Find No. Need for Their ‘Services. Novite, Tex., April 12.—Fourteen men were instantly killed and another, fatally injured by a premature- explo- sion of a heavy charge of dynamite at a construction camp on the Texco ex- tension of the Santa Fe road. Only three of the dead men have been identified, owing to the fact that] the bodies of the men were torn al- || most into pleces by the force of the explosion. A relief train with physiclans and nurses was sent out from Coleman, thirty-five miles east of here. There was little need for the physicians, as all of the workmen who were near the scene of the explosion were killed in- stantly. The men were at work in a rocky cut and a heavy charge of dynamite had been arranged to be set off by electric batteries from the camp prop- er, which is some distance from the cut. Through a mistake in sighals a heavy blasting charge was set off while fifteen or twenty men were in the cut and these were hurled sky- ‘ward by the force of the explosion. At least fourteen men were engaged in shoveling rock in the immediate vicinity of the explosion and the bod- fes of these were so terribly mangled and mutilated by the explosion and so |.| blackened by the smoke from it that they could not be recognized, even by their fellow employes, who at once rushed to the scene from the construc- tion camp. The bodies identified were found piled upon each other thirty yards from the point of the explosion and, while horribly torn, were identi- fied by means of letters and pay tags. How'’s This?
