JESTER BEMIDJI, MINNESOTA The Pioneer---10¢ per Week OPINIONS DIFFER AS T - THE RESULT OF THE GASE [Continued from First Page.] Taken all in all.the public here are disappointeéd’in the case .made out by the state, and the general be- lief .is that Paul Fournier will be acquitted. s + Dozens of times during the past days when C. W. Scrutchih, the attorney for the defendant,: would score on the attorneys for the state, the court. would find it necessary to restore order in the -court room. 3 . The state announced-at 4 p. m, today that with the. exception “of one short witness they weré ready to rest, whereupon Mr. Scrutchin stated that he was surprised at the abrupt termination of-the.state’s case and thiat he would ' prefer not the jury before Monday morning; that he expected many of his wit- nesses to reach the city Monday noon, and ‘would not be prepared to advance his case .much before that time, % He asked that the court here adjourn until Monday, which re- quest was granted. This proved a disappointment to the large audience present as'the rumor had gone out | that Mr. Scrutchin would make his opening address before court ,ad- journed in the afternoon. % This case has attracted.a, great deal of 'local” attention, standing room being at a premium in the court. - The skillful manner in which the case is being handled on' both sides, ‘the notoriety of the ‘case, and the desire. to hear every scrap - of evidence, as well as the arguments by able counsel makes it by long odds the most celebrated crimminal case ever tried in this county.
