THE BEMIDJI DAILY PIONEER PUBLISHED NVERY AFTHENOON, BEMID]I PIONEER PUBLISHING CO. By CLYDE J. PRYOR. Entered in the postoffice at Bemidi{. Minr.. a8 second class matter. SUBSCRIPTIDN‘---SS.DO PER ANNUM THE OPSAHL-ALLEN COMBINATION. Nearly every exchange that comes | to this office “contains a little free! advertising for the Bemidji Daily Pioneer, in the form of condolence, over the lack of support on the part| of the business men; commindations where its excellence as a newspaper, etc., anent the recent editorial that appeared in its columns wherein the management threatened the public with the dire calamity of going back to the publication of a weekly only, if there was not more substantial evidence of approbation, in the form of the “long green.” Well, well, bro hers, this newspaper | business is a strenuous life, but cheer up, there may be better times coming.—Bemidji Sentinel. The above is the policy of “dog- in-the-manger” which has been adopted by the new legislative com- bination which is at present at the helm over at the Sentinel office. Be it known that the local columns of the Sentinel would be woefully lack- ing of matter of a Iocal nature were it not for the fact that every even-|| ing the Daily Pioneer is left at the Sentinel office and the lo-al scribes of that publication grab it with avidity, oftimes making no changes whatever in the matter as it appears | originally in this paper. In fact, the man whose name now appears at the head of the Sentinel as editor (A. B. Allen) has often boasted that he took matter bodily from the{ Pioneer, without the usual courtesy of crediting the same. However, the Daily Pioneer challenges comparison of its news columns with those of any other Daily or Weekly paper published in north ern Minnesota; and were it left for the Sentinel to give the outside world the news of this community and “boost” the city as a progressive, live community, little would be heard of Bemidji. = We have always attempted to do a little “bonsling” for Bemidji and Beltrami county, without asserting that this was the most tax-ridden, disreputable place on earth in which to live, as one would believe were he or she to read this week’s issue of the Sentinel, which is very evidently issued in the sole interest of J. J. Opsahl’s candidacy to the legislature -and bearing out the assertion made by the Pioneer some time ago that the Beltrami County Tax League was but another name for a new politi- cal organization.
