Everett Haycraft, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Haycraft of Farley, left logging near Blackbuck in company with Mr. Fergusan, came in last evening from Milacca and passed on through to Blackduck. G. F. Ross, the senior member of the ffrm of Ross & Ross, came in last evening from his home at | Duluth and spent today in Bemidji looking after some business mat- ters. D. M. Price of Grand Rapids, | who is connected with the Namokin and Shevlin & Mathieau Lumber companies, came down this morning from a visit to Littlefork, where he went to look after some timber. W. H. Hughes of Crookston, post- | office inspector, left this afternoon for his home, after having spent the past week in this city and in this vicinity looking over the work being done at the local office and also several other offices near Bemidji. G. H. McAvity, the logger, passed through the’ city last evening on his way from Minneapolis to his near Blackduck. While he was “down below” Mr. McAvity secured a car of heavy horses to work in the woods, which will be shipped to Blackduck. Don’t fail to attend the Brink- man Family Theater tonight,the last chance to see Dolliver & Rogers, the western coast favorites, who leave tonight to fill an engagement at St. Paul. A rare opportunity, and tonight is their last perform- ance in this city. Don’t miss it. Matt Jones, who owns a refresh- ment parlor at Northome, returned to his home last evening, after hav- ing been confined in St. Anthony’s hospital since Tuesday, with fever. Matt came down Tuesday, and his rugged constitution got the better of his illness in a few days. Mr. Jones took home with him three elegant moose heads,two of which are several years old; the third head was taken from the carcass of a moose killed during the last hunting season / for Farley last evening to visit at his home over Sunday. Everett is at- tending the Bemidji schools. Mrs. W. Bliss and Mrs. C. A. Lucas of St. Paul, sisters of Mrs. F. A. Blakeslee, arrived in the city from their home last evening and will visit for a week or more at the Blakeslee home. Fred Eberlein, president of the Bemidji Brewing company, left last evening on a business trip to North- ome. He was accompanied by James L. George, manager for the Brewing company. J. H. Griffin, conductor on the M. & I. railway, who has been taking an enforced lay-off for two ‘weeks, on account of an injured thumb, has returned from a visit to Melrose, his old home, and will resume his “run” at once. Father O’Dwyer, pastor of the Bemidji Catholic church’ has been completing some reports during the past two days. In this connection, Eather O’Dwyer desires the Pioneer to express his heartfelt thanks to Messrs. P. J. O’Leary, M. Thome. M. Mayer and P. J. Russell for the purse of money which was presented to him on Christmas by the gentle- men named on behalf of the con- gregation. A case of diphtheria was taken to the county pest house yesterday. The man who was. suffering with the disease came to the city yesterday from the logging camps of the Wild Rice Lumber company, south of Bagley. The man informed Dr. Blakeslee, county health officer, that the adthorities of Clearwater county refused to care for him or to take his case in hand. Dr. Blakeslee telegraphed to Dr. Bracken, chair: | ‘man of the State Board of Health, and received answer that the man could be lawfully forced-to return to Clearwater county, and he will prob- ably be returned to the Wild'Rice camps gEgiatd e T H. J. Loud left this morning for a few days’ visit in the = twin cities. Mrs, Peter Larkin was in the city today from her home at Turtle River. Master Carpanter Mci’nrland of the M. & I., went to Backus this morning. Mr. and Mrs. Noah Beauregard came down this morning from Inter- national Falls, where they have been stopping for some time past. County Attorney Henry Funkley spent yesterday at Cass Lake, ap- pearing as attorney for the contest- Ec ant in a case at the U. S. land office. J. H. Flatley returned this morn- ing from a business trip to Inter- national Falls. “Jack” was not overly impressed with the lethergy | at the “Falls.” Misses Winnings and Monroe, teachers in the schools at Tenstrike, came down from their home this morning and spent the day in the city, doing some shopping. George Coppersmith, conductor on the Brainerd-International Falls passenger run of the M. & L railway, came.down this morning from the [T “Falls” and spent today in the city. He will return to International Falls this evening. John Moore, an employeof the Douglas Lumber company, was in- jured by a horse yesterday. The animal kicked Mr. Moore in the face and invicted wounds which will necessitate Moore’s.laying off for a week or more. & “Uncle” George H. Wetsel, presi-| I dent of the Beltrami County Old Settlers’ association, the pioneer settlers of this com- munity, came down this morning from his home at Tenstrike and spent today in the city. y Fred Brosseau, the woolesale liquor dealer of Crookston, came down this morning from Blackduck, where he had been interviewing the owners of refreshment parlors rela- tive to the purchase of -goods from his firm. Mr. Brosseau recently purchased the business of Felix Fournet, at Crookston. Skip Knouf, scaler for the state surveyor general of logs and lumber, came down this moming from Ten- strike, where he has been stationed for some time - past.. Today he scaled about 1,000 feet of logs on Lake Irving which belonged to the Grand Forks Lumber company. Mr. Knouf has been a state scaler for the past five years. Mrs. F. S. Lycan left this morn- ing for Minneapolis, where she will visit for a few days with her daugh- ter, Miss Donna Lycan, who is attending the University of Minne- sota and also with other friends in the “Mill City.” Mrs. Lycan re- ceived a telephone message from Mr. Lycan last evening to come down and enjoy a visit, Mr. Lycan having gone to the twin cities Wednesday to attend the meeting of the dele- gates of the Commercial clubs. Professor Thomas Symihgton this forenoon announced that it had been decided to change the date of the band concert and dance to be given by the orchestra from Friday even- ing, January 24th to Tuesday January 28th, for the reason that a basketball game has been scheduled to be played at the roller rink in this city on the 24th inst.
