Murray, the sage of the good fellows at Blackduck, spent yesterday in the city and returned to the “Duck” last evening. “Jim” states that he is doing well this winter and enjoying the full measure of health and happiness; all of which is as it should be. Tuomy of this city, left this morning for his home at St. Paul, after having spent the past three days here visiting with Dr. J. F. Tuomy and wife. E. J. Farley, the veteran lumber- man, spent the past two days in the city. He will leave this evening for Northome in company with F. J. Steimetz, to look after some timber in which they both have an interest. 0. A. Sarff, a general merchant of Browerville, came in last evening and spent the night in the city. He left this morning for his home at Browerville, a station on the Great Northern railway, near Long Prairie. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Carter re- turned last night from St. Paul. Mr. Carter has been serving as a member of the jury at the term of the U. S. court at St. Paul. Mr. Carter was excused from the jury for the balance of the term. Clarence Welch, son of W. P. Welch, arrived in the city last even- ing from Collegeville, where he is a student at St. John’s University. Clarence will visit in the city dur- ing the holidays. He will be joined here by his father in a few days. Mort Pendergast, son of T. H. Pendergast of this city, arrived in Bemidji last evening and will visit here for a few days with relatives. Mr. Pendergast is the traveling representative for the United Fence company of Port Huron, Mich. Charles Carter (nearly every- body knows Charles) was on the streets today for the first time dur- ing the past week. Mr. Carter. has been confined to St. Anthony’s hos- pital, where he has had quitea seige of illness but he has gotten the bet- ter hand of the sickness and will soon be “himself” again. Miss Janey Mills, who has been attending the State Normal School at St. Cloud, and her sister, Miss Alice Mills, who is teaching in the Walker public schools, arrived in the city last evening from St. Cloud and Walker, respectively, and will visit until after the holiday vacation at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mills, in this city. N. Armold of Deer River, the general manager for the Itasca Cedar company of Deer River, came over yesterday afternoon from his home and spent several hours in this city. He left last evening for points along the Canadian boundary, in the interest of his company. The Itasca company owns considerable cedar in the vicinity of Interna- tional Falls, Baudette, Warroad and other points, and Mr. Arnold will attempt. to get the timber “moving” more freely. Fifteen of the men will work in the camps of the Red River Lumber company and the remaining fifteen will be employed by Robinson & Dick. Charles Swedback, he of the generous smile and genial disposi- tion, was among the many passen- gers who got off the M. & I. south- bound passenger train this morn- ing. Mr. Swedback, who is now living at Big Falls, states thst he is more than-ever impressed with the future greatness of the north coun- try, and he predicts a steady in- crease in population and growth of business affairs to large proportions during the coming year.
