Clair and wife of Grand Rapids came down this morning from Blackduck, where Mr. Clair has been doing some cruising, while Mrs. Clair has been visiting with friends. F. W. Wilson, the Tenstrike livery- man, spent yesterday in the city. He left last night for Lakota, N. D., where he will remain until after the threshing season is over in the “Flickertail” state. Mrs. J. C. Benedict and daughter of Fargo, N. D., are visiting at the home of Mrs, Gertrude Rogers. They have come over among the pines for Miss Benedict’s health and will stay some time. L. M. Moon of Blackduck spent yesterday in the city on his return home from a visit to his sister, Mrs. Mackey, of Farris. Mrs. Moon, who accompanied him there, re- mained for alonger visit. John Fleming returned last night from a visit to Toronto, Brantford and Hornings Mills, Ontario, where he spent his boyhood days. He states that he had a fine visit and returns to his labors in the store with renewed vigor. We often hear people complain they are not able to get good lead pencils. W. H. Strachan, superintendent of the M. & I., came down yesterday evening 1n the special car “50,” which was attached to the south- bound freight from Big Falls. He spent last night in the city and left this morning for Brainerd, Rev. J. J. Trask, who is now in charge of the Presbyterian church at Herman, has returned to that place, after having_visited in this city with relatives and friends for a week. Mrs. Trask, who was unable to accompany her husband, is princi- pal of the schools at Herman. Rev. E. K. Copper of Brainerd, presiding elder of the Brainerd district of the M. E. church, passed through the city this morning on his way home from a visit to Inter- national Falls, where he has been attending a bible conference, there being a number of other ministers present. P. Dougherty, the railroad con- tractor who is building the Big Falls- International Falls extension of the M. & I railway, passed through the city this morning on his way to Minneapolis from Big Falls. Harry Mills, roadmaster of the M. & L., went tp the sink hole, near Kabekona, this morning to oversee the work that is being done there in filling the “bottomless pit” which has caused much annoyance this summer. Evert Kane, the tonsorialist who has been employed by L. G. Croth- ers, left last evening for Kelliher, where he will enter into business for himself. He will have charge of the shop formerly conducted at Kelliher by Baudette. . George T..
