Sheriff Stearns County. ) Of the eighty-four sheriffs of the various counties of Minnesota who are now holding office, more than half of the number have arrived in Bemidji for the purpose of attending | the semi-annual meeting of the State Association of Sheriffs and also to participate in the second outing ot | the organization. In sizing up the crowd and mak- ing comparisons, President Dreger and the number exceeded the expectations of Sheriff Bailey of this city, who was instrumental in secur- ing the meeting for Bemidji. Sheriff Gonyces fof Polk county and Sheriff P. A, Peterson of Norman county came from Crookston and Ada respectively, as an advance guard. When the M. & I. train pulled in from the south at 6 in the evening five more'of the sheriffs got off, and on the arrival of the G. N. train at 8, Sheriff Dreger of Minneapolis, the president of the State Association, stepped off the train, heading a dele- gation of twenty-five enthusiastic visitors. Sheriff Bailey and his sons, T. W. and John N., and Deputy Sheriff Arne Solberg were exceedingly atten- tive to the visitors, and did all in their power to make the stay here today an enjoyable one. Program TONIGHT Banquet at -the Markham Hotel to the visiting sheriffs and citizens of Bemidji at 9:30 o’clock. TOMORROW Tomorrow, the visitors will be given every opportunity to enjoy an outing on Lake Bemidji and her tributaries and a dinner will be served in the open air on a camping ground at the head of Lake Bemidji, near Rocky Point. The big gasoline boat, the “North Star,” has .been chartered for all day Thursday and will be used to take the visitors about the lake to various points of interest; and there will also be several launches and a dozen rowboats. The “North Star” will leave the dock for the day’s outing at 9 a. m. Thursday. f—————————— Has Fine Raspberries. Among those who are marketing berries this season, there are prob- ably none who have had finer speci- mens of raspberries and strawberries than T. J. Andrews. Mr. Andrews owns a five-acre tract on Irving avenue, where he has some fine strawberry plants and raspberry bushes. He picked and marketed nearly 1,000 quarts of fine ] strawberries and expects to handle about 1,000 quarts of raspberries before the season closes. ‘This is but another demonstration of the productive qualities of Bel- trami county soil.
