Mr. Moorhead has recently returned from Crookston. Frank Stevens, the cruiser, came down Saturday from his claim in the Littlefork country, and visited in the city over Sunday. N. A. Mrs. John Armstrong returned this morning from Tenstrike, where she has been visiting relatives for a few days. Alton arrived Saturday night from her home at Verndale on a visit to her son, Elmer Alton, and family. Her daughter, Mrs. T. C. Lunn and A. W. Danaher returned this morning from a fishing expedition to the summer resort belonging to Edward Leonard at Twin lakes, southeast of Tenstrike. The party were angling for bass, but owing to the high wind that caused high waves, they were not very successful in their quest for the black fellows. Clair of Grand Rapids went to Blackduck Saturday evening to join Mrs. Clair, who had been at the “Duck” on a visit for two days, and together they remained there over Sunday. Dr. Monahan came down from Blackduck this morning on a pro- fessional and business trip. The doctor was accompanied by Mrs. W. L. Stevens, mother of Mrs. Monahan, Will Grossman, clerk in Luken’s store at Brainerd, and who has been visiting for a week in this city,left this morning for Smiley and will go from there to Pelican lake on a fish- ing expedition. E. H. Winter left this morning on a business trip to the twin cities to purchase a winter’s stock of goods for the E. H, Winter & Co. depart- ment store. He may go as far as Chicago before returning to Bemidji. A chimney fire at the residence of John Gibbons, yesterday forenoon, caused a fire alarm to be turned in. The fire laddies responded, but the fire was extinguished before their services were needed to any great extent. The damage to the house was but slight. Fowlds, in whose honor the village of Fowlds was christened, was a visitorin the ci’ty Saturday afternoon and evening. Mrs. W. E. Neal left this morning for Northfield on a visit, and W. E. will pursue the even tenor of lone- some singleness for a few days. Mrs. C. E. Ray and daughter,who have been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. ‘Tke Black, left this morning for their home in St. Paul. Lieutenant O. H. Dockery came over from Duluth yesterday after- noon and after enjoying a few hours here fishing left for home last night. Misses Lowella Lenerville and Mabel McTaggart left this morning for St. Paul, where they have accepted positions in a wholesale millinery establishment. Mr. and Mrs. John W. Joe Markham came over from Crookston Saturday and visited in the city over Sunday. Joe has been employed at the Crookston hotel for several months past. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Remley of |} Lake Itasca arrived in the city last evening for a short visit withfriends and relatives. They were accom- panied by Mrs. John Osbourne, also of Lake Itasca, who will spend a few days in the city. Mrs. Berman returned last even- ing, having enjoyed a very pleasant outing on Lake Plantagnet for a couple of weeks. She will leave to- morrow morning for Chicago to pur- chase the fall stock of goods for the Berman Emporium. A. P. White, president of the Lumbermens National bank, has returned from his extended trip in the south. Mr. White was absent only ten days, but he covered an immense amount of territory, going as far south as Oklahoma. Mr. White spent seven of the nights he was absent occupying a Pullman sleeper on trains, and _transacted much business in the limited time at his disposal. Coming Attraction. The famous comedians, Bob and Eva McGinley, who are well known here, will appear here August 17, in a fine vaudeville performance. This company is now playing to big crowds all along this line, and have a great show this season. Miss Lezette Hoskins, the New York star, singer, dancer and mimic, and Mr, Edmond Miller, the Chicago musical wonder, is with the company this season. Will Picnic i the Park. The members of the local Eastern Star and Masonic lodges will picnic in the park opposite Fifth street, on Tuesday afternoon. All members of ‘both lodges are requested to bring their baskets.
