TWO MEN ARRESTED. Belleved to Be Bandits Who Held Up Train in Montana. Missoula, Mont., May 11,—Two men believed to be the Northern Pacific train robbers have been arrested at Arlee, twonty-seven miles west of here: Sheriff Noff and posse have left for that city. The state of Montana has offered a reward of $1,000 for the arrest and conviction of the men who in attempt- ing to rob the North Coast limited pas- senger train at Welochs Spur killed Engineer Clow. This makes the to- tal reward for the murderers $3,000. Gold Found in Minnesota. New Ulm, Minn,, May 11—Gold has been discovered on the Joseph Bier farm, in the town of Milford, Brown county, five miles southwest of this ofty, and the people are in a fury of excitement. The farm had been for sale for several years, but on account of the Cottonwood river running through the land, causing a deep ra- vine, it was not considered an ideal location. Y., May 1l.—Lake Ontario has been swept by one of the worst storms in years, which drove back into harbor boats that ventured out on the lake, kept many others in port and caused many narrow escapes from wreck. Grave fears are felt for the safety of such vessels as were caught out on the lake. The steam barge John Rugee of Og- denburg came into harbor at Charlotte encrusted with ice and snow from bow to stern. Y, May 11.—The court of appeals has sustained the right of Attorney General Jackson to attack in the name of the people the title of George B. McClellan as mayor of New York city in behalf of William R. Hearst. The Hearst cause has now won in all courts. ‘The court i unan- imous and no opinion is given. Mr. Jackson’s predecessor denied Hearst’s application for permission to begin ~ quo warranto proceedings | against McClellan. Mr. Jackson tried to reopen—the case, but was stopped by an ‘injunction, whereupon he brought action upon his own initiative | in the name of the people. His right ! to reverse his predecessor’s act was attacked and it was also argued that he had begun this action in deflance of a writ of prohibition.
