g H l S z k When your nerves are weak, when you are easily tired, when you feel all run § a i lC down, then is the time you need a good s strong tonic — Ayer’s Sarsaparilla. SUBSCRIPTION $5 PER YEAR It is to be hoped that the talked-of joint debate between Congressman McCleary of the Second district and Frank Eddy will not fizzle out. It would do the sleepy and easy-going voters of the Second good to hear a man like the Sauk Center editor and former congressman show up the oleaginous politician from Mankato. When we read the pessimistic, socialistic tommy rot handed out by some of the disgruntled edi- tors of the state—happily they are few and far between—we wonder at the patience of the reading public, This isn’t such {a bad day and place we-live in, Everything is not a graft; every- body is not dishonest; the United States and Minnesota are not going to the damnation bow- wows. To read these fellows one would think every county official was a thief,” every state officer a highway robber, and every man holding a federal job a sand-bagger out to strike down the taxpayer in the dark and sack his pockets. The knockers’ club should take something for the liver and cheer up. At last a champion has been found to defend the free seed distribution graft, It is the Martin County Independent, published in Fairmont. Itad- mits, not in so many words, but in substance, that the seed dis- tribution is a steal, but argues that the farmer should he allowed his little graft on the national treasury along with the interests which, it alleges, push through what it is pleased to call the public huilding, river and harbor, ete. “steals.” The Independent has come into possession of a brilliant idea. Probably not one of the congressmen who voted for free seeds could have thought of a more convincing one. Uncle Sam expects to be grafted on. Everybody dip in. The Sea--Level Canal. The majority report of the senate committee favoring the sea level type for the Panana canal is likely to be favorably re- ceived the country over. The type recommended will take a few years longer to build thana lock canal and it will.cost close to a hundred willion dollars more, but it will undeubtedly pay in th long run. The committee declares that while the cost of construction will be more, the cost of mainten- ance will be considerably less. It also points out the greater in- jury au enemy in time of war could do alock canal, and the greater speed and ease with which war vessels could be sent from ocean toocean through a straight away ditch. 3ut the moving argument with the committee appears to bave been thelikelihood of earthquakes on the Isthmus. Eogineers say that seismic disturbances would cause far greater injury to a lock canal than to one built on the sea-level. The locks might be injured so as to cause a delay in traflic of months and possibly years. INVESTORS All Look To BEMIDJI! Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription, Is not a secret or patent medicine, against which the most intelligent people are quite naturally averse because of the un- certainty as to their harmless character, but is a medicine OF KNOWN COMPOSITION, a full list of all its ingredients being printed, in plain English, on every bottle wrapper. An examination of this list of ingredients will disclose the fact that it is non-alcoholic in its composition, chem- ically pure glycerine taking the place of. the commonly used aleohol, in its make- uk:. ‘The “Favorite Prescription” of Dr. Pierce is in fact the only medicine put up for the cure of woman’s peculiar weak- nesses and ailments, sold through drug- gists, that does not contain alcohol and that too in lurge quantities. Furthermore, it is the only medicine for woman’s special diseases, the ingredients of which have the unanimous endorsement of all the leading medical writers and teachers of all the several schools of®practice, and that too as remedies for the ailments for which “Favorite Prescription” is recom= mended. A little book of some of these endorse- ments will be sent to any address, post- paid, and absolutely free if you request same by postal card or letter, of Dr. R. V. Plerce, Buffalo, N. Y. Don’t forget that Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription, for woman’s weaknesses and delicate ailments, is not a patent or secret. medicine, being the *Favoyite Prescrip- tion” of a regularly educated and gradu- ated physluiu.n, engaged in the practice of his chosen specialty—that of diseases of women—that its ingredients are printed in plain English on every bottle-wrapper; that it is the only medicine especially de- signed for the cure of woman’s diseases that contains no alcohol, and the only one that has a professional endorsement worth more than all the so-called “testi- monials” ever published for other med- icines. Send for these endorsements as above. They are free for the B,skmg.
