COMMUNICATIONS. | To the Bemidji Pioneer: There have been over four hun. dred men shipped out of this town by Anderson & Jounson, employment agents. The business people of Bemidji realize the money that each and every oue of those men would have spent had they not been shipped west. From $15 to $25 each until the spring work opened up, which would amount to at $25 each man at least $10,000.00, also leaving our lum bermen short four hundred men that could get better wages had they staid here. I am going to do all [ can to get first class lumber men from Michigan and Wisconsin to take their places by guaranteeing them jubs. Dowie Threatens to Cause Arrest of e New Officers of Zion. Chicago, April 10.—A report was re- ceived in Zion City during the day to the effect that John Alexander Dowie, upon his arrival in Zion City, will cause the immediate arrest of General Overseer Voliva and the members of his counsel on a charge of conspiracy. The rumor caused great excitement in Zion City and the announcement was made that if Dowie took such ac- tion his own arrest would follow im- mediately and upon a charge more serious than has yet been made pub- lic. Deacon Harrison, speaking for Overseer Voliva, said: “If Dowie carries out such a pro- gramme we are prepared to meet him in the same way. He will at once be served with warrants upon charges more serious than have so far been made public.” Preparations have been made to counteract any move that may be made by Dowie in the direction of causing arrests. Bonds have been pre- pared by the officers of Zion church 80 that it will not be necessary for them to leave Zion City. Overseer Voliva said during the day that he did not have the slightest fear of being arrested on any charge that could be made by Dowie. He said further that Dowie would not be per- mitted to hold any meeting in the tabernacle, as he has said that he would do, but that he will be com- pelled to seek a vacant lot, “and,” added the overseer, “I do not believe that he can find many people in Zion City who will allow him to hold meet- Ings on their vacant lots.” The Chicago and Northwestern rail- road has paid into the Michigan state treasury $640,758 for back taxes. This is the first road to pay up its taxes under the recent decision of the Unit- ed States supreme court upholding the Michigan ad valorem tax law of 1901.
