Minneapolis Journal:—Itasca’s county division tangle is giving the authorities some hard legal nuts to crack, Ahearing was| held before Governor Johnson this afternoon on the different conflicting petitions, Under the new ccde the governor is the sole authority to pass on petitions and call elec- tions. All the petitions were filed under the old law, and taken up by a boatrd, consisting of the governor, state auditor and secretary of state. This board approved the Internaticnal Falls petition, but deferred action on the other three till today. One question submitted to C. S. :Jelley, assistant attorney general was whether this board should finish action on the petitions, or whether its connection with them ceased when the code became ef- i fective March 1. more than one petition can be submitted, as the code reads, or whether the election can be called under the provicions of the old law, since the petitions were filed under thatlaw.
