Ba T OUR RECORD > e § e e ¢ ey e T o g, = ™"~ i D proven by experience, ‘and so successful has it been that ) today it is the best known and most widely used blood remedy in the world. . For diseases such as Rheumatism, Catarrh,-Scrofula, ‘With medicines as with other things, the surest test.of worth is the length of time they have the confidence of the people. ‘The efficacy of S. S.'S. has been thoroughly. Skin Diseases, Sores and Uleers, Contagious Blood Poison, and other troubles due to an impure and poisoned condition of the blood, no remedy acts so promptly and thoroughly as does S. S. Those opposed to this idea give the reason thatian early convention will give the democrats a chance to frame their ticket to the most advantage and take up the weak points of the Republican ticket. The re- publicans should not putup a iweak ticket. Anyway the pre- jconvention fight shows a weak- ness, in-as-much asa long and bitter preconvention fight shows a soreness which cannot be healed. The Pioneer belieyes in a convention convened early and the best men nominated, then elect them. Thereis no fear of the democrats finding a weak spot in the Repulican ticket if the nominations' are made in the right spirit. Let the twin cities work with the country districts and.then Minnesota can again be classed with the banner Republi- tcan states. i | THE “code’’ is out. The re- vised laws have caused numerous scares and .even threats of an extra session of the legislature, but fortunately the state is be saved the useless expenditure of public moneys which would be needed to get our solons in session, and what troubles arise from the new laws being in con- flict with something or other will be left with the fawyers to struggle along until the next |legislature meets and makes matters still worse.—Roseau Region. The entertainment given at Tenstrike Wednesday evening by the Willing Workers of the Epis- copal church in that village was one of the most successful events cf the kind that ever occurred at Tenstrike. Besides the local talent that assisted in the pro- gram, a number of Bemidji peo- |p1e took part, Judge Pendergast delivering a speech on the civil war, County Superintendent of ISchools Regan speaking on ‘““In- surance”’, Prof. Thos. Symirgton giving cornet and violin solos and S. E. DeLong rendering a vocal solo. Both from a social and financial standpoint the en- tertainment was a big success. Clearwater Case Up Today. The case of certain citizens of Shevlin- against the board of county commissioners of Clear- water county in which it is sought to obtain a permanent in- junction against the board re- straining it from paying for re- pairs made to the court house at Bagley, is up before Judges Spooner and McClenahan at Brainerd today, Judge Spooner leaving this morning for that city to hear the arguments of the at- torneys in the matter. Will Start Building Soon. A letter to Mayor Carter today from the Northland Trade com- pany of St. Paul states that the company expects to begin the erection of its cold storage plant in this city in a few days. The vacating of'a portion of a certain street atithe location 'of the pro- posed plant by the city council will be necessary before work on the buildings can be started, but council. CONFESSION AS EVIDENCE. Murder Trial of Richard Ivens Begins at Chicago. Chicago, March 9.—The trial of Richard lvens for the murder of Mrs. Bessie Hollister was commenced dur- ing the day. filed against one of the jurors by As- sistant State’s Attorney Olson. After a consultation with Judge Smith and Attorney Folz, who represents Ivens, the juror was excused, it being thought i that his feeble health would not be able to stand the strain of an extend- ed trial. Another juror was secured and Assistant State’s Attorney Olson made his opening address to the jury. It is generally understood that the ‘case of the state depends largely upon the repeated confessions made by Ivens to the police and state’s attor- ney’s office and as soon as the case was fairly under way Mr. Folz object- ed to the introduction of any confes- sion purporting to have been made by Ivens. He was promptly overruled by the court.
