The supply of liquor is always good in the towns along the line, and as a usual thing the woodsmen get afair sized load before departing from one town to another. While waiting for trains on such occasions the woodsmen are as a rule very noisy and boisterous. The only agent along the line who has hit upon a plan to keep his depot comparatively quiet is the one at Kelliher, who has installed a graphophene in the depot, and every time the woodsmen be- come noisy the machine is wound up and set to running with the result that the listeners forget their noisy inclination and listen quietly to the concert rendered by the graphophone. Begging that he might be com- mitted to the insane asylum at Fergus Falls, Robert Alexander Emmons, aged 39, was brought | before Probate Judge Clark Sat- urday night and after a short ex- amination he was adjudged in- sane and committed tothe asylum at Fergus Falls, where he was taken Sunday afternoon by Sheriff Bailey and Wm. P. Welch. During the examination before the judge of Probate Emmons exhibited not the least sign of in- sanity, but explained that he was subject to . spells that attacked hiw at intervals of from two te four , months. During these spells, he said, he lost all control of his mind and body and knew little or nothing of what' he was doing. He said that he had twice attempted suicide while coming out of the influence of the spells, once by taking landanum and the other by morphine. The first time, he said, he was pre- vented from accomplishing his designs by the arriyal of friends The second time he tovk an over- dose of morphine ané was forced to throw it up before it had any effect upon him, He said that he had been troubled with the spells since his wife died six years ago in Mon- tana, where he condueted a drag store and did an excellent busi- ness, and where he was a politi- time' senate.
