Carter poration so overwhelmingly voted by the people of Bemidji Septem- ber 26. Mr. Carter himself was a vigor- ous opponent of the charter and worked hané in hand with the McDonald-Bailey ring, which is now supporting him, to defeat it. The supporters of Mr. Carter lose no opportunity to question the legality of the charter. They are constantly elaiming that it is full of glaring defeets. 'They 1l openingly declare their hostility; . |even yet, to city organization. We do not trust our children to teachers who hate them. We - do not make our enemies manag- “lers of our private business ~laffairs. Why should we make e ! | the enemies of the eity its rulers? THE campaign carried on by the Bailey-McDonald faction for the election of their ticket Nov. ember 7 has been as lacking in reason as was the campaign the same ring carried on against the adoption of the charter. ~ Abso- lutely no argument has heen ad- vanced by the ring in either campaign that would for one moment appeal to the intelligence of the people of the city. It ap- pears to be taken for granted by the leaders of the McDonald- Bailey faction that the people of Bemidji are a stupid, unreason- ing lot who can be easily gulled. The “Daily Times”, existing for political reasons only, and filled daily with doddering rant- ings, to which man has yet had the courage to sign his name or acknowledge authorship, may well be termed ‘“An Appeal to Stupidity.” THE business men of Bemidji stood solidly for the charter and the people stood with them and adopted city organization. The business men of Bemidji mow stand solidly for the election of Mr. Gibbons and for good goven- went. The people can have this too if they want it.
