The outside world learns of the desirability of a town from its newspapers, and Judges not so much by what the editor writes—for all edi- tors boost ihe home town—as by what the business men do in the way of aavertising. A town with business men who are not enterprising enowgh to know the virtwe of printers ink isn’t mueh of a town and everybody who gets a glimpse at a local newspaper ‘‘sizes wp’’ the place of its publica- tion by this sign—Duluth News Tribuwne, The Pioneer has been under the present management now just two years. The Weekly Pioneer, already the best known paper in north central Minnesota has been made to double its cir- culation, while the Daily Pioneer, then just established, has been placed among the foremost country dailies of the state. This 1s something for Bemidji to be proud of for it is the stead- ily growing prosperity of Be- midji that has done it. - And to the quite general support which the business men of Bemidji have given the Pioneer must be cred; ited much of the prosperity which has attended the city. Thousands have seen the Pioneer and said, “Look at the adver- tisements! Bemidji must bea pretty substantial town,” or “A new town that can support a daily newspaper like that is worth looking up.”’ And so hun- dreds of people have been at- tracted to Bemidji and are : being attracted here today, many of them to make investment and to help build up a constantly big- ger and better city. We feel that the work of the Pioneer during the past two years has beena distinct sue- cess and we are not unmindful of the fact that the liberal sup- port of a large number of the business men of Bemidji is the - | chief factor in that success. e Colds It should be borne in mind that every cold weakens the lungs, low- ers the vitality and prepares the system for the more serious dis- eases, among which are the two greatest destroyers of human life, . pneumonia and consumption. Chamberlain’s l Cough Remedy I has won its great popularity by its prompt cures of this most common ailment. It aids expectoration, re- lieves the lungs and opens the. secretions, effecting a speedy and permanent cure. It counteracts any tendency toward prenmonia. Price 25¢, Large Size 50c. : THE county attorney at the first ward caucus was highly in- dignant because the postal card notices of the caucus were not signed. He considered it unfair and indicative of some unworthy purpose, What then are we to think of the purposes of an an- nonymous newspaper such as the “Daily Times.” Must they not, by the county attorney’s own logic, be unfair and un- worthy?
