Sam Benson, formerly of Be- midji but who is now conducting a saloon at Kelliher, was last night found guilty in that village of selling intoxicating liquors without a license and sentenced to pay a fine of $50 and costs. County Attorney -McDonald prosecnted the case under an or- dinance of the village of Kelliher. Benson says he will appeal to the district eourt, NORTHERN LEAGUE. The meeting of the city coun- cil' which was to have heen held at the city hall last night was ad- journed till tonight. One of the matters to come before the coun- cil this evening will be the ac- ceptance of the new city well re- cently completed. The well is being connected with the city pump this afternoon. Storm Did Damage. The electrical storm last night did considerable damage to wires owned by the Wartield Electric company. One bolt of lightning struck a wire on Third street and put the lights in several buildings cn the north side of the street out of commission. .Tohn Berg, who was _injured ~|about'a month ago by a Great 0. W. Newbery of Crookston: Northern passenger train two miles east of Wilton, was today shipped by County Health Officer Blakeslee to his home at Still- water. Berg has been confined at St. Anthony’s hospital since the accident and he is now able to wall about. The Great North- ern railway company refused to pay for his treatment at St. An- thony’s on the grounds that when he received the injury he was trespassing on the company’s property. The footing of all bills thus fell upon the county. Not being a resident of Beltrami county, Health Officer Blakeslee decided to return him to his home town. Forks Drive Through. Crookston Journal: A large crew of men were busy Satur- day sluicing the log -drive which came down the river Friday. The logs are bound for the big lum. ber mill at East Grand Forks. Lack of timber has forced the mill to shut down for several days in the last two weeks. From Monday night after the arrival of the logs the mill will be kept go- ing continually through the iseason. Another large drive is expected through here every day to further supply the mill. Senator Clapp Coming. Senator Moses E. Clapp will be hereon July 31 on his way to Crookston, where he will attend the meeting of the state drainage league. S. mail to the Great Northern and Minnesota & International depots from the postoffice has been let to Theodore Thronsen for $360 per year. Thronson is a milk man and makes nearly all the day trains. 1t is necessary for him to .make eight rourd trips daily between the deposs and the postoffice in order to ful- fill his contract.
