Winter & Co. department store in. Bemidji, yesterday af- ternoon had a narrow escape : from drowning while fishing ina small lake near Buena Vista. Mr. Miller was in a small canvas boat and the craft upset, precipitat- ing him into the water. Fortu- nately, the accident was wit- nessed by his two companions, Tha er Bailey, and George Keihm; who went to the rescue with another boat and succeeded in pulling Mr. Miller from the lake. The party caught 60 black bass in the days fishing. Notice to Samaritans. Two Weeks Illness—" - Funeral Wednesday. cer residents of Be- ed at St. Anthony’s hospital: last night at 8 o’clock after a two weeks illness complicated with Uuramia. Mr. Sprague’s condition has been very grave for several days past and his death was not unex- pected. He was 43 years of age. The funeral will occur Wednes: day morning at 10 o’clock, when a short prayer will be said over the remains at the home of Mr. Sprague’s’ mother, Mrs. J. B.} Sprague, 515 Beltrami avenue, after which the funeral sermon will be preached at the Presby- | terian church by Rev. McLeod. Mr. Sprague was a member of the local lodges of Samaritans and Maccabbees and the mem- bers of these lodges will turn out for the funeral. Among the relatives that will arrive in the city to attend the funeral are J. H. Warren, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Brown and Mr, and Mrs. Robert Poole of Forest River, N. D., W. M. Brown of Drayton, N. D., and Isaac Sprague of Prairie Farm, Wis. Ted Smith Sells Out. - Ted Smith, proprietor of the ““Three Guardsmen” saloon and bath rooms on Second street, has disposed of the property to the Fitger Brewing company, who have leased the building to Stearns, Bamber & Manchester of Detroit, Mich. The new firm took charge of the establishment today and will conduct a first class establishment. A grand opening of the establishment will occur within the next week. Dance Tomorrow Evening. A dance will be given tomor- row nighe at the city hall by the management of the opera house, immediately following the Fourth of July program. Music will be furnished by the Bemidji string orchestra and the affair promises to be highly sucgessful, Mrs. J. Hockaday and son of Verndale, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Conger.
