Rens, one of the best known men in Oconto, agent for the McEachron com- pany, suicided during the day. His body was found in a barn three miles south of the city. ‘He had com- mitted suicide by shooting. He had been employed by the McEachron com- pany for twenty years and was the only one of their agents not required to furnish bonds. It is said he had purchased = 10,000 tons of hay from farmers, very little of which had been paid for, and all of it had been shipped away, the company receiving pay for only a few tons. As hay is quoted at about $8 a ton here, this would mean a shertage of $80,000, and if the operations were ex- tended to other lines of produce in the same proportion, the shortage will be the Koch trial,” says the Roseau Times, “none stranger than one Silverson, known as ‘“Mayor”’ Silverson, of New Ulm, where the terrible tragedy took place.
