McKinnon, one of the employes of the Bureau of For- estry at Cass Lake, spent last night in Bemidji. Mr. McKin- non had with him the complete hide, head and feet of a large black bear, and was here for the purpose of consulting with Henry Buenther, Bemidji’s texidermist, relative to having what was left of his bearship stuffed and placed in proper condition for preserva- tion in its original stage. “Billie”’ McKinnon is well known in Be- midji, having lived here for some time several years ago, and he bears an enviable reputation as a hunter and user of fire arms of every type. The bear of which he brought the hide to Bemidji was killed near Schley last Mon- day; Mr. McKinnon killing the animal with a single shot from his Luger revolyer. The bear, when “fixed up” by Mr. Buenth- er, will be shipped to Cass Lake and will be added to Mr, McKin- non’s already fine collection of trophies of the hunt. son all left last evening for their respective homes. Yor many years Bradford has been a “no license” village. At the recent spring election a license mayor and four councilmen ‘were elected and an ordinance has leen passed placing the saloon license at $4,000 and restricting the number of-saloons to one. Minneapolis Lumberman Gives His Views on Rate Legislation. Washington, May . .—Thomas H. Shevlin, a lumber manufacturer of Min- neapolis, stated before the senate in- terstate commerce committee that he preferred to deal with traffic managers rather than a government tribunal. Mr." Shevlin spoke of the prosperity of the country at the present time and urged the commi‘gee not to do anything to disturb cor®itions. “If .you do,” he added, “you will have a panic to which the effect of Bryan’s election would have been a small matter.” Furious Wind and Rain Storm.
