THE report of the public ex aminer to the governor touching the acts of various Beltrami coun},y officials is redolent of the footprints of Andy Danaher. The public examiner acting on information laid before him by oneof his deputies, who with Mr, Danaher constantly at his elbow, spent some two weeks or more Beltrami affairs, has made serious charges of official misconduct againsta majority of the officers of the investigating county. Whether these charges | are true or false is not for the Pioneer or for any man to say until the commission to be ap pointed by the governor shall have made- its report. If the charges are true the accused offi- cials should be summarily dis- missed from office; if they are false the officers are entitled to and shall receive a public vindica- tion. But the source from which the charges spring cannot inspire much respect for the report of the public examiner. Everybody in Beltrami county‘ knows that A, W. Danaher, chairman of the board of county commissioners solicited the visit of the deputy examiner to this city, that the investigations of the deputy were made with Mr. Danaher con- stantly at his elbow and that the report of the deputy to his chief embraced only suchitems as Mr. Danaher saw fit in his wisdom to suggest. Everybody in Beltrami county knows also that Danaher is a former scavanger, a former professional wrestler, a saloon keeper and that his zeal for re- form is of very recent birth fol- lowing hard upon a political re- verse which lost him the control of the board of county commis- sioners, a reverse which he en- dured with so ill a grace that it caused him to make an unpro- voked assault with his fists upon one of the members of the board on the public streets of this city and to breath out threatenings and slaughter against any man who should dare to cross his path or thwart his pleasure. Such is the source of the public examiner’s report. rvvmvvvmv’l 2l ol 2 288 B B e B .
