It seems that the attempt has signally failed, however, for eyery available Ramsey county man has announced his fidelity to the nominee of the party. Fail: ing in the attempt to persuade an opponent for Senator Clapp from St. Paul, the Minneapolis papers have to be content with vague stories of disaffection in the ranks of the Ramsey county members of the legislature. The Pioneer has no particular predeliction for senator Clapp but it has smallsympathy for the methods employed by the Minneapolis newspapers to de- feat him. Our suburban contemporary suggests that Representative Simons should vote against the reelection of Senator Clapp for the reason that Senator Clapp’s friends in this county were the only ones who opposed Mr. Si- mons at the primaries. The principle of revenge is a noble one and its advocacy does the Sentinel credit. Thereare some men in the world, however, who|: are honorable énough to keep their word and it'is possible that Mr. Simons, despite his associa- tion with the Sentinel, is one of these and that he will vote for Senator Clapp in January as he has publicly promised to do.
