HITCHCOCK. <{ntered in the postoffice at Bemidji, Minn., as second rlass matter. Official County and City Paper SUBSCRIPTION $5 PER YEAR At Home. When Robert C. Dunn comes to northern Minnesota he is right at home. has done so much for this sec- tion of the . state as the republi- can nominee for governor. Dur- ing the time that Mr. Duna was state auditor he not only saved the state hundreds of thousands of dollars but he saved the home- steaders of northern Minnesota hundreds of homes. This is not truth from his own experience. But beyond these personal ser- ered to so many of the common veople of this end of the state, his official acts as state auditor Minnesota. No more ardent friend of drainage exists than insistence in former years that the work of draining the swamps of northern Minnesota was first entered upon. Mr. Dunn has al- ways looked upon northern Min- nesota as teeming with fruitful resources and he has bent every ‘|energy, porsonal and official, to| f§i put this section in a position |\ where we can realize from these|” resources, Mr. Dunn is right athome when he comes to northern Min- nesota and no man in the state has a warmer welcome than he. Where It Hurts. The primary election law is al- right in theory but it does not work out very well in practice in its present form. The Pioneer has been one of its most enthusi- astic defenders but we are com- pelled to admit that it must be radically changed if itis to be kept. The harm that it has al- ready worked is great and ifit remains on the statute books for four years more in the present form it is a safe prediction that our political system will be re- duced to chaos. * Look at the effect of the law upon the republican county tick- et in Beltrami county. There- publican ticket is the only ticket in the field. There is not a pop- ulist or a democratic nominee and yet the republican nominees 'who are opposed by independent candidates are today in far more danger of defeat than if there was a complete democratic or populist ticket in the field. Un- der present -conditions it is very difficult to line up the party strength. The contest is a per- sonal one, not a party contest. If it is a good thing to do away with i)olitical parties, the pri- mary law is alright. .If not, it is pretty nearly all wrong. We are firmly convinced that two more elections under the primary law will entirely wipe out all party lines, all party orgrnization. Saves Two From Death. “Our little daughter had an al- most fatal attack of whooping cough and bronchitis.” writes Mrs. W. K. Hayiland, of Armonk, N. Y., “but, when all other reme- dies failed, we sayedher life with Dr. King’s New Discovery. Our niece, who had consumption in an advanced stage, also used this wonderful medicine and today she is perfectly well.” Desper- ate throat and lung diseases yield to Dr. King’s New Discovery as to no other medicine on earth, Infallible for coughs and colds. 50c and $1.00 bottles guaranteed by all druggists. Lockjaw, or tetanus, is caused by a bacillus or germ which ex- ists plentifully in street dirt. It is inactive so long as exposed to the air, but when carried beneath the skin, as in the wounds caused by percussion caps or by rusty nails, and when the air is ex- cluded the germ is roused to ac- tivity and produces the most vir- ulent poison known. These germs ay be destroyed and all danger of lockjaw avoided by ap plying Chamberlain’s Pain Balm freely as soon as the injury is received. Pain Balm is an antiseptic and causes cuts, bruises and like injuries to heal without maturation and in one- third the time required by the iusual treatment. Sold by Bar- ker’s Drug store.
