A very enjoyable time was had by those in attendance. Misses Mabel and Vada Me- Taggart gave a party toa number of their friends last evening. Twenty-five guests were in atten- dance and refreshments were served. Games were the diver- sion of the evening. V. S. Faltyseck of Buena Vista, chairman of the town of Turtle Lake township, who has been at the St. Anthony hospital for a few days with a threatened at- tack of typhoid fover is much better and expects to be dis- charged soon. A contest social was given last night by the Y. P. S. C. E. society of the Presbyterian church and a very good time was had by those who attended. The Soo road is going to make Thief River Falls a railroad cen- ter.. That much seems certain and within a week survey of o new road to branch out from Thief River Falls will be com- menced. Just where the new road will run to noone knows, but that a branch will be built out from Thief Riyer Falls is In regard to the nomination of county attorney the Blackduck Times says: ‘“‘Attorney John Gibbons came up Monday even- ing to see the residents of Black- duck and vicinity and to make new acquaintances—and it can be said that he didthat. Notwithstanding the careful cavnass made by different candi- dates there is not a great deal of interest in the primary election in the country, The number of votes which will be cast in Be- midji has been materially re- duced by the fact that many have left for the harvest fields. A representative of the Pioneer in canvassing the city found in one section ten houses from which every man but one had gone west for the harvest. Every attorney in Bagley isa candidate for county attorney in Clearwater county. The pres- ent county attorney, Wm. Mec- Glennon, has made a very capa- ble officer and isa strong man second term. highly of Dr. Mayland’s candi- dacy for representative. The only paper which seems tobe supporting Mr. Simons in his home county is the Democratic Red Lake Courier. The Rainy Riyer Region an- nounces its support of J. J, Re- gan for county superintendent of schools. A very amusing incident oc- curred on lower Minnesota ave- nue yesterday afternoon. Two ladies were passing a well known barber shop in front of which lounged a half a dozen or more young gentleman when two dogs started to fight. One of them was quickly defeated and with loud whelps ran directly for one of the passing ladies, who, in at- tempting to aveid the canine dropped her slipper. Several of the young gentleman gallantly offered assistance, but were po- litely refused, and with many bluses the lady regained her foot- wear and resumed her way.
