PULLS STAPLE ON LOCK OF " COUNTY JAIL. Then Leaves Bagley, But Re- turns To Be Arrested By Police. Swan Torkelson, the man who has been in all sorts of trouble over at Bagley for the past year, was arrested there yesterday on a charge of releasing a prisoner and his hearing is being held to- day. John Ferris, a farmer who lives a few miles from Bagley, was arrested by the Bagley police Tuesday and confined in the county jail for flashing a gun and acting in a drunken and dis- orderly manner. He is a close friend of Torkelson’s, and as the story goes when the latter heard of his friends incarceration he im- mediately procured thenecessary tools and pulled the staple at the the jail, releasing Terris. The two set out for the home of Fer- ris, a few miles from Bagley and stayed there over night. Yes- terday morning Torkel:on left the Ferris farm and returned to Bagley, where he was arrested by the police for aiding a prisoner the 'steenth time Tor- lzelson has been in trouble dur- ing the past year. He was re- cently discharged from the office of sheriff by Governor Van Sant upon a petition by prominent peo- ple of Bagley, and has felt sore over this ever since, and it is thought that his actions since the discharge have been in a spirit of revenge upon those who were responsible for his dis- charge.
