Official County and City Paper SUBSCRIPTION $5 PER YEAR I Congressman Tawney’s constituents had not kept a good man when they found him Minne- sota would not today be honored by the appointment of a Minne- sota man as head of the speaker’s bureau for the national republi- can committee. With a man like Congressman Tawney the longer he serves the state the more he grows to be a national figure and the more honored is his state. THE Minnesota state fair will this year be bigger and better than ever and that is saying a good deal. The fair position of the interests and re- sources of the northwest and is some years past the stage of be- ing merely a state institution. If you want to know about the great northwest, visit the Minne- sota State Fair. is an ex- A rEW sore heads are now gleefully heralding a falling out between Dunn and Heatwole. The same fellows a few months ago swore mightily that Dunn’s nomination meant the elevation of Heatwole as despotic boss of the republican party in Minne- sota. Seems to be a screw loose with-our friends, the enemy. THE Crookston band is a won- derful advertisement for Crooks- ton. It is afine rhusical organ~ ization maintained upon business principles by the business men of the city because it pays them to supportit. Bemidji needs the same kind of a band organization and it is up the Business®Men’s Club to provide it. A SourH Daxora candidate wants an office and he says, “My friends are not urging me. Iam urging my friends.”” He is a man among ten million and ought to be elected. We must all admire the per- sistence with whick the Japs keep right on Russian the game. rvvvvmmvva Quiring is more a question mark than ever. The Red River valley wheat fields are yellow for the harvest. Anoka provides a bathing place in the Rum river. It ought to be popular. Nashwauk is working its big fire for all the advertising there is in it. You can shoot insulators off the telephone poles in Hubbard county at $50 per In twelve months up to August 1, 1904 Polk county consummated 302 marriages. Come westand grow up with Motley where the young men get to be six feet seven. St. Cloud, which always has the price, wants to invest $30,000 in a north and south railway. The Milaca creamery distrib- utes $4000 per monthgamong its farmer patrons. This is pretty rich. The Little Fork Guardian is thoroughly convinced of the navigability of the Little Fork river. 4 Moorhead’s new directory figures out 4210 people with pretty near a thirst parlor for every 100 of them, Pecer Sharpe is a candidate for Judge of Probate in Norman county and all you other fellows run up against him if you dare. POLITIGS Registoer of Deeds Matt Phibbs is making an active campaign for renomination. Mr. Phibbs has ‘made an exceptionaily capable officer in an ‘office which re- quires great care and painstak- ing and in which mistakes prove very costly tothe people of the county. Throughout his service as register of deeds Mr. Phibbs’ record is absolutely clear and a more efficient officer would be hard to find. Mr. Phibbs is confident of success at the pri- maries notwithstanding the fact that his opponents are both able men witha strong following of friends. Mattiis one of the pio- neers of the county, his acquaint- ance extendsthroughout all parts of the county and his large per- sonal following united with the fact that the people are growing more and more adverse to giving up agood man when they have found him and proved him true makes him a strong favorite for the nomination. The campaign between Buck- man and Foster in the sixth con- gressional district promises to be fully as spectacular as that of two years ago. Buckman is lining up his friends and will present a more formidable front than it was_supposed a few months ago would be possible. Col. Foster’s advocates are legion however and they are of the kind who keep things warm all the time. tight for Sheriff in Polk county. Sheriff Sullivan wants a third term, Deputy Sheriff Gonyea wants a first term and ther others too numerous to mention. prise thinks that a strenuous campaign must be on in Beltrami county since Mr. Hays devotes a “column each week to scoring the candidates.” Pats an End to it All.
