RPN AP APAP PP PP PP PNNPONNNNNE NN Entered in the postoffic at Bemidyi, Minn., as second class matter. Official County and City Paper NN AN SUBSCRIPTION' $5 PER YEAR APRIL 1904 1804 THE PUBLIC EXAMINER. FEw men who haveheld public office in Minnesota have made such tremendous mistakes and have so abused their trust as has Public Examiner Johnson. John- son has sought noteriety by dragging men down and by at tacking them on all sorts of trivial pretexts. His zeal to make a record for himself has lead him into the wildest attacks upon men of unquestioned integrity and he has flinched from no pettiness and meanness in his attempt to besmirch the good names of. in- nocent men. Recently Johnson has lent him- self to an attempt to make polit ical capital against Bob Dunn by conductinga - searching exami nation of the records of the state auditor’s office in the| hope of finding something that might reflect on Dunn’s integrity or ability. Johnson spent, months in this attemptand found nothing «_for all his expenitureof the'state's " “money. An investigation progress astoJohnson’s accounts and. it is claimed that he has sinned the same sins that he has 50 busily attempted to lay at the door of others during his term of office. Whether this is so or not Johnson already stands convict- ed of repeatedly attempting the indictment of honorable men on the most trifling charges. No . man could do his fellow man a greater wrong than this. . is now in IT 1S one of the merchant’s big problems to know ‘how much money it is best for him to pay for his advertising and where he had best spend it. Itisa hard nut to crack for those who put their serious attention to'it and - too many merchants failtodo this. . But-it is-safeto say that since the St. Papl Globe fiasco of this week not many merchants in this city will be very enthusi- astic over spending money out of town for advertising. 'So far as the Pioneer is concerned we have attempted to confine-our-solici- tations foradvertising to a strict- | | . ly business basis and to assist the merchant in getting the largest possible returns from the money he spends for advertising. That: the Pioneer has had some suc- cess in this its advertising col- umns attests and we hepe to make them demonstrate what paying advertising is more and more clearly each day and week and month. | THE recent village and city 1 elections in northern Minnesota “have not been encouraging to the ‘&dv_oca.tes of socialism as a polit- ical principal.
