A brother here froma near state tells us that this fight here has put the white brethren of the Unit- ed States very much against the Negro Masons as a whole and these smart men have’nt the sense to see that they are hurting themselves and no one else. The Memphis Appeal seems to be kicking itself to death about white Masons recognizing Negro Masons in this country. It says that there is a sad want of respect and gentility when any Lodge of white Masons sliow a Negro Masonto enter, much less to make him their Master and the Lodge in New Jersey that thus degraded itself should receive the utter contempt of all white Lodges and their names and number heralded throughout the con- fines of this country and whenever a member should visit another Lodge or in anyway mix with the Brethren he should be told to pass on and be treat- edas a Clandestine Mason.” [The Appeal may be of Masonic inclinations, etc.,, but we are satisfied that they know nothing about Masonry, for the simple reason that Masonry knows nothing about the color of the man, it is the work that is presented for In- spection.] For the information of the legitimate faction who claim that the 17th st. faction is Bogus, etc., here is a sample illustration of the feelings of the white Masons of the United States towards the colored Masons of the United States, so far as their legality as awhole is concerned.
