tHE WASHINGTON BEE SECRET ORDERS. GRAND LODGES, D C. (Continued from last week.) And behuld these good people on the 6th day of August, 1896, cume out in a printed edic:, which is contrary to page 36, section 20, constitution, &c. 0! the Grand Lodge, and stated that the defendant Seville, failed to appear Or | make any excuse either in writing or otherwise, and the said Seville, while being tried for one thing was sus- pended for another charge before the first was disposed of. This celebrated edict on page 3, says that it is not the intention o! the Grand Lodge to inter- fear with Chapter Commandery Con sistory, &c. But onthe next page, it says that each Master Mason on its rolls must come out of the A. A. S. R. in 30 days, or they would be suspended for coniumacy (something good to eat.) The brethren seeing that the Grand Lodge was in the game, assem- bled on the 1.th of August, and after due process, &c., formed the Grand Lodge of F A. A. Ancient York Rite Masons for the District of Columbia, on the i2th day of August. 1896, the same was duly incorporated. Now at this stage the question might be asked why we incorporate? This answer is simple The Grand Lodge of F. A. A. . for District of Columbia bolted on the jump and tormed themselves as an independent or State Grand Lodge. By said action they put their foot in it. It is an undeniable fact that the Na- tional Compack Grand Lodge of Ma- sons was, andis the mother of Free- among colored men in this country and to-day the Compack has 24 State Grand Lodges in full blast and working when the District of Col- umbia bolted from its mother, the Compack. It did so without official oe So if it was legal for the = . of the District of Colum- bia to bolt and form an independent or State Grad Lodge. why was it_ legal for the Jones and Seuille Faciion to bolt fom the Grand Lodge of the Dis- trict of Coiumbia, when the said Grand Lodge undertaken to settle Scottish Rite Controversy, in the Blue or >ym- bolic Department, which every intelli gent man and mason knows to be wrong in every pasticular, trom the following fact, that each department is separate and distinct In Freemasonry, the Masonic ord r proper is divided into two divisions and sub-divided into ten subdivisions, viz: Inthe York Rite there are 3, as follows: The Blue Department, the Chapter, and the Commandery. In the A. A.S R., the 14°, the 18°, the 30°, the 32°, and the 33°, and the Royal and Select Masters, and t_e latest ad- dition, the Sovereign College of Al- lied, Masonic Degrees, the Iistrict of Columbia Grand Lodge, composed of the fighting eiement, charged Seville with matiers in the 33°, and before they close up the same, cut him off by suspension fur a new and separate charge, and he never having a fair trial, and the matter placed Into the hands of a one-sided commission, all members of the fection making the fight. inen I am informed verbally that they expelled these men forsome- tning altogether different Now at this stage let me ask a problem? If a man has a horse in a barn and the horse gets away, what is the use of shuting the door when the horse has skipped? This is the way Seville and his friends did. They failed to wait and be decapitated, but they taken French leave im time to start their own kingdom, which is becoming stronger and stronger every month. In a litle while the District of Colum- bia will be flooded with \vasons. We are turniug them out in large num- bers, every month, and good timber, atthat. A BFE representative met Rev. S. G. Lampkins a few days ago and ve was asked the meaning of Rev.Wal- ter H. Brooks’ card. Rev Lampkins remarked to THE Ber’s man tnat he would have his innings in a few days. It is understood that the Baptist Min isters’ Conference intend to with- draw the hand of fellowship from him, “but,” remarked Rev. Lampkins. “when Christ called the accusers of Mary Magdalene before him and said, ‘He without a fault throw the first stone,’ they turned their backs and walked away. So it is with those who talk of withdrawing the hand of fellow- ship.” Another one of Rev. Lampkins’ friends remarked that the very men who are talking of withdrawing the hand of tellowship are today standing on thinice, and at any moment they are likely to break through. This :ame gentieman claims to have in his pos- session evidence that ‘will startle the community, to the effect thata_ certain prominent Ba-tist minister who is al- ways preaching morality, has been caught in compromising positions with members of his church. His only re- mark, when he was accused, was: “You know, brother, we are all ac- cused” Rev. Lampkins is not at ali uneasy, and he and his triends are now deter- mined to vindicate Rev. Lampkins of the talsity of the charges against him, and show that it is a persecution and a conspiracy on he part of his enemies —ministers and laymen—to injure him Rev. Lampkins said tnat he nas never, atany time, acted in any way but asa gentleman towards his people, and all he asks is for the public to hold their opinion, and it wil! be shown whe the guilty parties are. ‘‘Men who have been imposing upon the public as moralists and defenders of female virtue will be shown up in their true light before the civilized world,” said another of Rev. Lampkins’ enthusiastic supporters. “(ont you think,’’ said this gentle man, ' that we-areasleep. Rev. Lamp- kins will come out all right.” “ WHITE” NEGROES. {From the Charleston, S. C., Recorder.] The action of the members of the Centenary M.E. Church of Charleston, S.C., is receiving a full and deserving amount of ha sh criticism for asking for a white min.ster for their church. “When Negroes get so ‘white’? and clannish until they are willing and ready to reiegate their own race, among whom are members who stand as high in their cal ing as members of any other race, it is time for this sect themselves to be relegated to the rear. the Charleston Messenger states the case plainly in its able editorial of last week, when it says: ‘The action of Centenary Church, a church which once stood high in intellectual attain- ments, and contributed much to the progiess of the colored peope as a race, in calling to its pastorate a white minister is a refiection upon every rep- GEMS FROM THE QU RRIES Quaker City Lodge 3550. of Philad- elphia, gave a fine recepti_n recently. It is quite evilent that the Dis-| trct white Republicans hive de_ cided to secure all the offices if they cin. ‘They haye laid claim to the} office of Recorder of Deeds; they | want the Register of Wil's, the Commissioner of the District, Col- lector of ‘Taxes; they have the As- sessorship, all o h r miner offices except two clerkships, which are now held by two Afro-Americans. Mr. Sands is making a bold fight for District Commissioner bat the outlook now is that he will not be confirme . Mr. Henry E. Davis will, no doubt, be confirmed this week or next week without fail. ‘The Recordership of Deeds will have 500 applicants or more. Don’t fail to secure THe Breé next week = It will bea great inau- -ural edition. ‘The people want a first-class paper and they will have it. There are quite a number of Re- publicans on the anxious seat. The offices will be few and far b tween The white Republicans may demand all the offices, but Major McKinley will look out for the colored voters. Cyrus. The marriage anniversary of Rev. and Mrs. J.
