A charming little frock for a girl can be made of ashes-ot-roses silk, with a guimpe of ivory-white India silk. Some sleeves are lined to the elbows with stiffening, others have the inter- lining only about ten inches deep over the top, narrowing to about five under the arm. _ Others have nothing stiffer than taf- feta li.ing throughout, cut just the size of the outer fabric. in skirts, ists and seams ‘Ss w Dainty little matinees to be worn when one is obliged to remain in bed, are developed in flannel, cashmere or delaine. The effect must be soft and loose. Few buttons are seen on the under- wear of to-day, ribbon ties closing most everything. Underwear can be market with per- fection, by writing your name in your usual hand on the cloth with a lead | pencil and embroid it with white cot- ton. The one or two stiffly arranged _pil- lows on couch or lounge have been superseded, and the divan and window seat of to-day show a number of luxu- rious-looking pillows arranged in a most comfortable manner. Among the fabrics most in favor for pillow cushion covers for common use we have the wash silks, art linens and denims. The linen covers should be embroid- ered daintily with Asiatic wash silks. Circular pillows are pretty and novel, and these may be ornamented to suit the taste. ucked and lace-frilled lawn and Swiss are used for blouse-fronts, chem- lisettes, and collars and cuffs, which | may be bought by the yard.: Small looking shoulder capes are made of changeable satin, with jet passementerie and Venetian guipure lace. Cloth buttons are preferred to those of metal for trimming woolen suits. | Black is used in combination with i most every color and it is almost re- markable to see a hat or bonnet with- out a touch of black on it. Blue and gray mixed mohair is seen and makes a very neat gown. Mohair serges come in large plaids, blue and green being especially strik- | ing. Double-breasted effects are seen in basques, waists and coats for the com- ing season. | A pretty shoulder i | is of plaited and spangied black chiffon mounted to a square yolk of spangled | silk; full ruche of ribbon and roses | around the neck. Black ostrich feathers are still hold- ing an important part in. millinery. From six to a dozen are still used on hats. Ribbons arein vogue for neck gar- nitures and some very elaborate de- signs are seen. Some have stripes of black velvet running lengthwise. A tailor-made tweed suit with large buttons on the short, loose-front coat, is just the thing for Autumn outings. | Flora Batson. Metropolitan Church +4es ath.
