Of the entire claims against the collapsed bank, aggregating $2,250,- 000, claims of $700,000 remain unproved and the largest of these is the claim of the city of Philadelphia for $626,000, Troops Leave Homestead. After ninety-five days’ service the Six- teenth Regiment marched out of Home- stead, Pa., with flying colors, to the sound of music, and followed by the cheers of some non-unionists, About 1,000 strikers watched the troops depart, but preserved strict silence. Homestead is now free from troops. The cost to the State of maintaining the national guard at Home- stead has been $400,000. Tobacco Kills Cholera. The experiments of Dr. Budener and Dr. Wernicke in Hamburg, on the rela- tions of tobacco to cholera, have led to a remarkable discovery. The cholera ba- cilli, shriveled up and died after being placed on a tobacco leaf for only afew minutes. When the bacilli were exposed toa dose of tobacco fumes or tobacca juice, they likewise quickly died. Desert the Amalgamated. Delegates from Pittsburg, Sharon, New Castle, Leetonia, Warren, Niles, Girard and Hubbard, Pa., representing the rol- ters and finishers in iron mills in the towns named met at Youngstown, O,, and organized a Finisher’s Union. The members of it will all withdraw from the Amalgamated Association. Tonti Order in Trouble. A bill in equity has been filed in Phila. delphia against the Order of Tonti, a seven-year benefit order asking for a re ceiver. Quo warranto proceedings were also begun at Harrisburg, and a prelim- inary injunction was granted to prevent the officers of the order from exercising any function. Escaped Through Fire. ~ Ned Christie, the outlaw who resisted the attack of the United States Marshals | for two days near Tahlequah, I. T., has finally escaped.
