For Eighteen Miles They Tore Down the Mountain Side. A dispatch irom Wilkesbarre, Pa ys: One of the most thrilling railroad ents recorded occurred on the Lehigt ilroad at 4 o'clock Sunday. 4 coal train consisting of 45 cars was coming down a steep mountain grade when the brakes failed to hold. The engineer woke up the whole country around by the shrill whistle: from his locomotive. The distance fron the top of the mountain to the foot is 1€ miles). When the brakemen saw tha they could not control the train they al jumped. The engineer alone remained at his post. The train reached amomen tum of 70 miles an hour.
