A bumber of prominent colored Republicans met at the office of the Bee, Le Droit Building, last Tuesday eveniug and organized a Harrison and Morton Republican League. The meeting was called to by W. Calvin Chase, who said that the President’s message urging the passage of the Fede:al election bill shou'd receive be indorsement of every loyal Republican in the country. The following temporary officers were elected: George H. Boston, president, and W. H. Jones, secretary. A set of resolutions offer- ed by Mr. Jones was adopted stating that erroneous statemerts are con- stantly being made converning the grievances of the colored Ameri- cans, which has a tendency to alien- ate friendship and otherwise injure their political advancement. The resolutions faurthur commended their unswerving patriotism and unimpeachable fidelity, and spoke of the “‘monarchical and hereditary provisions of the civil se: vice plank of the platform, whose vccupants are inimicable to the administra- tion and must justly be considered as faithfal allies of the defeated party.” It resolves, that in consid- eration of the difficalties of the President, he has been unmistaba- bly equal to the great emergency, and nas benefited them at every opportunity. Acommittee of fifteen members were appointed to hold a mass meeting to indorse the mess- age of the President. Hon. B. K. Bruce, John R. Lynch, E. M. Hew- lett, and A. W. Europe were elect- ed honorary members of the organ ization. The league adjourned to meet next Monday evening at 7 o'clock. —--— ewe WEST WASHINGTON NOTES.
