It always gives us pleasure to record the successful result of well directed efforts in any department of business, especially when that success is backed by merit, and tends to promote the general wel-— fare. Competition in all branches ot business at this time is great, aud he who by energy, integrity and perseverence takes the lead is worthy of commendation. In this connection we allude to Dr. Tutt, of New York, who has a- chieved a great victory over long established competitors in the in- troduction of his world renowned Liver Pills. Ina comparatively short time they have surpassed pills that bad been before the pul- lic overa quarter ofa century. Tutt’s Liver Pills have gained a popularity unparalleled. Indors- ed by the Medical Faculty in Eu- rope and America, they have become a household word on both continents. Dr. Tutt deserves, and doubtlss has, the gratitude of thousands of invalids who have been healed by his medicine. In this age of quackery it is refreshing to know that there is at Jeast, one who fur- nishes a remedy prepared on scientific principles’ and offers it to the sick conscientiously. We record his success with a feeling of pride which every American should have at the triumph of one of hig countrymen. — + THEY SAY The Junior Excelsiors will go to River View September 10th. The talk of the city is the Junior Excelsiors excursion to River View September 10th. W. A. Stewart knows how to get up a first class excursion. Everybody is going to River View September 10th. The Cadets will goto Colling- wood Beach, Friday August 16th. The moonlight excursion of the Washington Cadet Corps will take place Friday evening August 16th. There i3 a base ball elub in Washington they call the ‘‘Never Sweats,” but the boys were un- doubtedly slightly ‘‘moist,” after the game on last Mouday. We note with pleasure the pro- motion of Messrs. C. R. Douglass and H. C. Bruce from $1 200 to $1.400 in the Pension office this week, If your shoe-tie or apron string breaks, your sweetheart is thinking of you, but bow is it when you wear Congress gaiters, or boots? Of course the latter precludes the former. If that anti-melodious crank that waits table at our boarding house, will take a few lessons in harmony, he can come to my room at his leisure and get something Ihave for him and oblige. There are some of the meanest Negroes in the Census office that I have ever seen. This is Snow joke either. We wonder how many of these will be there when Congress meets ? We will wait and see. If the rum, no not rum, but whiskev, blessomed nosed parlia- mentarian of the Acanthus club, that was on a Seventh St. car last Tidesday afternoon, will kindly take into consideration the fact that he draws just $60 per annum less salary from the government than I do, he will oblige me. When this reflection is had, he will find out perhaps that it is as well to recognize an unfortunate, as to toady to his superiors now. Remember that ithas not always been so with me. Jesse K. Roy has left the city for a few weeks sojourn in the coun- try. It is whispered that he is bad- ly stuck with a sylvan beauty, and goes for the prize. He had better be careful, or he will find he has simply drawn a blank, which is ‘neither good tor far or meat.” A word to the wise is sufficient. Capt. Perry wants an explana~ tion about that paragraph in these colums Saturday before last, as we area married man now, and are anxious as to the probable fate of our widow. Wehave decided to to give him one, meet me at the clud room Jimmy dear, and we will have it about our person some- where. ELLEMBEE. SOUTH WASHINGTON NOTES. Revs. J. H. Coolidge, HARNESSSATTACHMENT, Patented NoveMBer 131TH, 1888. THE GREATEST LIFE SAVING DEVICE. eee J.8. Coonmar’s Harness Attachment is the best thing of the kind ever put on the Market. It is so ar- ranged that any one can secure it to any harness, in three minutes, without cutting the same in any way, right out in the street. It canbe taken off the harness in two minutes, and the harness returned to its former style without the least trouble or exertion. It saves time in hitching and unhitching as a horse can_be at- tached to the vehicle in less than 30 seconds and extri- cated in less than 5 seconds. It is an ornament to the harness and contains nothing in its parts to get out of order, the case being so constructed that the straps can be lengthened or shortened as is required. The Bolt is removable secured so as to allow the spring to be removed when worn. The particular advantage this device possesses over others consists in the con- structions of the case and arrangements of the straps, whereby the same maybe attached to any harness without cutting the same, as has heretofore been neo- cessary in order touse devices of this character. To the loop of the Bolt may be attached lines 28, said lines being connected with the driver by suitable means, so that if the horse runs or becomes unman- ageable, the tightening of the lines will draw the bolt 12, and the spring 24 will cast the plate 16 aside and release the animal from the vehicle. Any woman or child can hitch or unhitch a horse without the slight- est trouble. Thousands of the attachments are being used every day.
