No one cares whether they do or not. But those same individuals are always inquiring what its contents are. ihe real fact is they are too impecunious to make au honest purchase of a paper but prefer to sponge on their good natured friends. Sume young ladies say that they wou:d not read a c lorea paper ut all because speaks too pluinly abuut mu ters. Yet those same persons waste their midnight oil in reading literature that would tura a mum- my to ablush. It cannot be den‘ed that the Bee, while it does not Lite off its words at buth ends, and calla hee au implement cf agricu ture for fear of offending some one,—it does undertuke to say that it off-rs far more put on the the point of a needle, for indeed had he lived up to ths time he could have readily determined that there are human beings whose souls are so small that you could puta dozeu or more in the point of a needle and then have plenty of room to sew. Those who do not read the Bee, have no doubt been guilty of some infamous crime of which they are ashamed to be told. Alli moral and honest people are not ashamed to read anything. 35.3.2 ANOTHER LITERARY ASSO- CIATION. PROF. W. B. JOHNSON ON THE IM- PROVEMENT OF THE RACE. Prof. W. B. Johnson ot Way- land Seminary and pastor of the 2d Baptist church was greeted with a large number of his con- gregation and many other persous interested in the welfare of the race, at his church last Thursday evening. Prof. Juhnson on as- suming the chair stated that his purpose in calling his people to gether was the organization of a literary association upon a cosmo politan basis. He didn’t want any one to feel that he was a strange; that he didu’t desire to confine the proposed association particularly to his church, but to make a | wel come. After a pleasant exchange of views among thvse present, Prot. Johnson was elected tempo tary president and Miss Lizzie Mason, temporary secretary, On motion of Mr. Austin Ficklin, a committee on permannent organi zation was appointed, which brought in the names of perma nent officers. While the commit tee was out Mr. W. Calvin Chase was invited to address the audi ence, after which the committee reported for president, OC. F Bundy; vice president, Miss L. A Cooper; secretary, Miss L. Mason; ana treasury, Mr. H. B. Franey. Mr. Bundy in a neat address said that on account of his business he could not accept of the presidency of the association, but he would do as much as anybody else to make the association a success and would therefore decline in tavor of Mr. Chase, who had just addressed them. On motion of Mr. Maxfield the name of Mr. Bundy was stricken ont and Mr. Chase’s nume inserted who was elected. A com mittee on constitution and by laws and program for next Thursday evening were appointed, Great interest among the people is mani fested im this laudable undertaking on the part ot Prof. Johnson and the people may look fur one of the finest literary assuciations in the city.
