REET ESS OM OO TE IS = TT II DECORATION DAY IN PHILA- DELPHIA. THE HOTEL BROTHERHOOD GROW- ING. PRESIDENT HAMILTON SICK A GREAT DAY OBSERVED, (From our Regular Correspondent.) Philadelphia, Jane 3rd, 1886. Decoration of the soldiers graves commenced Saturday morning and continuedfun il Monday. The flor- al displays by the different Posts and conveyed oy them to the vari- ous cemeteries, were excellent. The flowers sent by the soldiers of this state to the graves of Grant, Hancock, Meade and McClellan were very tastefully arranged and great credit was due to the Florist. The Robert Bryan Post, that I spoke of in my last letter, at their camp fire spent a very pleasant evening in speaking and singing. All were well pleased at is recep tion. Mr. Marlow, a member of the Hotel Brotherhood visited your city last week, (Washington being his home) returned here Thursday and gave the membersa glowing ac- count of the futare organization of the Hotel Brotherhood nexc fall at 4 Washington. One of the greatest points connected with the Brother- hood is the care they exercise in coming to the rescue of a fallen Brother, by sickness. During the president's (Mr. Hamilton,) sick- ness he was waited upon by the sick committee, but not needing anything, he refused to accept tie amouut that was due him weekl) and instructed the committee to retain the amount in the treasury of the association. At their last meeting it was resolved by the members: for him to accept, which was done, and out of its many mem- bers, Mr. H. is the only member that has drawn upon the sick fund. Every member of the Brotherhood will always stand firm by him as he has made the order what it is, and has- protected it from all the stigma’s that has been slured agaist it, by jealousy of one or two who have a personal dislike toward him. The Brotherhood still lives and is ready at any time to be called upon to do a charita- ble act, as it bas done in the past. Mr. John E. Waters, head hall- man of the American has the sym- pathy of his many associates and Brothers in the sad affliction that has befallen him by the loss of his mother and the severe illness of his wife. May God ever watch and guide Jolin to prosperity, he is a good soul, and has my sincere sympathy. Messrs George Brown and Wm. prather will leave for Cape May in lew days. They are resting now a anil tea good season from t \ capes; after the season is over th y will pay their parents a visit af Washington and then return to the city of Pisladelphia where they will locate for the winter. The Mikado was performed here on Thursday night last under the supervision of Prof. W. J. Powell and embraced some of the fiuest a Colored talent of the city and was a success. The characters were well taken and acted and many praises were extended tothe troupe for its success. | close with many re- gards, Yours, Wanderer.
