"THIRTY-NINTH YPAR. HUZZA FOR HONEST HORACE | nk ROCHESTET, CONVENTION AL- MOST A UNIT FOR MIM, — the Chairman's ¢ f Appl Greeley Speech The Ci ne of Grant's Edie a Catnip Fite Rocvesten, May 1&—ihough the pro- ceedings of the Democratic to-day sppears almost Laine on paper, they were highly significant, The election of Mr. Kinsella, first as temporery and then as perinanent Chairman, meant business, and the right kind, too. As ehief manager of the Brooklyn Eagle he has tiven bis hand and heart tothe Cincinnatt move- ment from the start and he is now an earnest and eloquent advocate of the acceptance of its nominees by the Baltimore Convention, His ypeoch on takirg the chair drifted stendily and Hrongly in that direction, and the enthusiastic cheers which it elicited showed that he carried the Convention with hi ‘The delegates and the audience applauded vehemently at the right places. ‘The speech and the plaudits meant the Mocinnati platform and the Cincinnatl nomi- gees. No doubt Baltimore will take the hint and listen to the f New York, A UNIT FOR GREELEY, The long and exciting discussion on the reso- \utions and the Proposed amendments thereto in regard to the mode of sending delegates to Baltimore simply showed that the Convention was intent upon sending thither a de*zation shat would act together asa unit, cast the vote of New York as a unit, and thus make a great yower felt, It was for this reason that the Con- vention at the close of its warm debate voted down the proposition to allow the delegates trom each Congressional district in the State to weloct thelr several representatives to Baltimore, ind sustained the original proposition, which requires the whole of them to pass the ordeal of scommittee of sixteen, In a word, the Conven- don here determined that the delegates from New York to the Natfonal Convention should all be of one mind, and should all ultimately vote tor one candidate for the Presidency. Not to puta fine point on it, the action of the Conven- tion at Rochester to-day on this subject means Dr. Greeley at Baltimore In July. THE DELEOATES TO BALTIMORE. The committee having in charge the subject of reporting a List of delegates for the National Convention ts in session this evening. They will report to-morrow. It ts almost certain that for delegates at large they will present the pames of Gov, Hoffman, Senator Murphy of Kings, Delos De Wolf of Oswogo, and Jarvis Lord of Monroe, Murphy and De Wolf are known tobe open and hearty for nominating Greeley and brow . Hoffman, It is under= stood, expresses. no doubt that such will be the ultimate result, Lord ts the con- fdeatial friend of Judge Church, 1 believe Judge Church has given up all idea of anybody else being nominated at Baltimore ex- copt Greeley and Brown, and Lord, beyond all question, will reflect the view of his friend, ‘The remaining sixty-four delegates will in the first instance be named to the Committee of Sixteen by the delegates in this Convention from their respective Congressional Districts, If unobjec- tionable they will doubtless be adopted by the committee, Nobody dreams that asingle one of the whole sixty-eight delegates to Baltimore will be hostile to the acceptance of ghe Cincin- nat! nominees, unless something very extraor- dinary should turn up between now and July, and thus render a complete change of front necessary on the part of the New York Demo- cracy. In fact Ido not believe that there are ten Democrats within and around the Conyen- tim who have the slightest idea that there will be a straight-out nomination made by the Na- tional Conyention. Throughout the day the tide has set with steady momentum for the ultimate acceptance both of Gresley and Brow! Some outspoken Democrats who came Into the wovoment rather reluctantly, say that there is only one man who can divert this tide from Its vatural channel, and that man is Horace Greeley. WHAT THE RESOLUTIONS MBAN. ‘The Committee on Resolutions, of which Con- gressman Potter was Chairman, held a long ses sion and cncountesed # good deal of dificulty, too, in coming to @ Unanimous agreement. What they presented as original could have been drafted in fifteen minutes, and in fact it was, with the exception of some portions, prepared Wo their hands tu advance by Mr. Caushdy of the Albany Argus, The committee readily’ agreed upon, affirming the Cincinnati! platform. done the difficulty then arose. Four of the four- teen members were strenuously In favor of go- ing a deal further than the report upon which they finally agreed. They wanted a more explicit statement in regard to the Cincinnat! nominees. The resolutions as accepted squint at them, but the four progeessives wanted to look them’ full in the face. ‘the four gentlemen referred to Were Ruger of Onondaga, Hart of Chemung, Morris of Kings, and Tyner of Erie.
