It may bo Interesting to our readers to recall the course of Central stock since it was carried some months ago from 1314 to 175, on the 80 B cent, serip Gividend, legalized by the last Legislature. Soon after the issuing of said stock dividend, under the Influence of rumors of consolidation with the Hud. son River road, the price was adroitly manipulated by the Vanderbilt ring to 218%, though subjected by their management to frequent and successful fuctu Ations. Syracuse, Sept. 22—Midnight.—The Domo- cratic State Convention has met, nominated officers, and adjourned ostensibly, It has been unusually harmonious, much more #9 than any of its pre- decessors. Upon Ailigent inquiry, however, we have ascertained that @ bloody political bat- tle has been fought for the Inst three or four days. A bitter hostility to Tammany Hall has made itself openly manifest on the part of the Democrats from the rural districts, ‘The agitation of this movement against Tammany {s brought home to John A. Green, who was chagrined at not wielding the in fluence over the proceedings of the Convention as in former years, Another rumor was clreulated to the purport that Tammany was oppored to choosing Samuel J. Tindel on the State Executive Committee. Both of these rumors seem to have tad some foundation, ant trondle was therefore anticipated ‘To avert the same depended upon Tammany, and its leaders very sensibly decided to have no voice in the Convention, They pledged themselves to allow the twenty-one delegates to be muzzled, and they kept thelr word, They also kindly consented to have nothing to say about the platform, further than to nequiesce in the Coesidy, Kiernan, and other influential country members. views of WHY TAMMANY CAVED, With this question settled, the wes every moment growing In Intensity, rapidly ibated, and Anaily ceased. The fight for State Prison Inspector was very live ly, ‘The Tammany delegation sat in one corner of the room ike #@ many sticks. When New York county was called, Win. ANOTHER Pram, ‘There wan also a struggie over the nomination for Judge of the Court of Appeals (short term). After several ballots Robert Earl was nominated, the rest of the ticket waa resolved upon in» private caucus, and was a matter ofcourse, The nominations were over at 6:42 P.M. and @ recess was taken until Yo'clock, ‘The attendance was much more sle at the evening session than before, re Mr. Cassidy, from the Commitee on Resolutions, read thet from the platform, and they were adopted unanimously amid prolonged cheers, The resolu tiona sympathizing with Cuba were received with deafening cheers, the members arising to thelr foot ‘They are what onc expect them to be, THK CHAMPION DRMOCKAT.
