Tie Volunteer Committes, having sacertained the ournber of naval recruits that have been en)isted !n this city, tranamitted their report yesterday to (rov- ernor Seymour and Major Townsend, the commir- sion appointed by the Beeretary of War to inventi- grate the matter, By this statement it appears that 28,000 naval recruits have been en!inted-—the names, ages and residences of whorn areal! given, it in thought that @ large proportion, if net all of tha number, will be credited to the city. With reference to this mubject, the Board of Supervisors, alm meeting held yesterday, wdopted s resolution directing the Volunteer Committe to act in com- junction with the Governor of the State and hin aesociate Commismiover in relation to the matter of the enliatment of ovor 24,000 naval recruits, and for which allowance te clairued on the quota, under the aes call of the President; to make actaim therefor, aud to solicits postponement of the draft, aa well an the exemption of firemen, uniformed militia and the police; and alo to urge the hardship of drafting heacia of families, upon Whom devolves the duty of proweding means for their support. In connection with the question of creliting nave! recruits who have heretofore been en!\sted, it te etated that Newport on Monday received full credit nite present quota for 211 such recruits, then by exempting that city from the draft.
