~ —EE SSS IER = mn | LWAYS at this season of the year, there comes a special in- aspiration in the way of clothes that are plain and simple, and an out- growth of all of the new styles that been advanced as the season's offerings. As you look at these frocks de luxe, they appear harmless enough—not a whit nor a jot of trimming that {s extra and un- formed. The fact is that they have reached the perfected stage—the place where they are sure and oertain of themselves, not afraid to say that they stand for the best efforts of a new designing season and that, as time passes, they will remain as rep- resentative of their age. This year, strangely enough, you seo the one-piece dress coming back, back, back. It has many new points and features and, sometimes, it is so camouflaged and developed that it cannot be recognized, at first sight, ax the thing it is. But nevertheless it remains the one-piece affair that we were introduced to so many years ago and that we have clung to with so great a degree of affection, not to nay love. It gives us comfort to the last Inch of its making, It 1s beautiful in line, !t lets the material show to Its best advantage and, more than anything else, {t expresses our Amert- can ideal of efficiency plus charm which ts so much a part of our dress- ing as well as every other expression of our lives. In the picture of the girl who is sit- tiag down, there is shown one of these extremely simple models with all the grace and line that the best of them are showing since the season has be- come established, and the one-piece dress knows exactly what it is doing. This one is made of Kasha cloth, very fine serge material that comes tn the loveltest colors and is woven with a surface that has long camel's hairs have fashion there ts no doubt HERD ts a new cofffure, Of that And not only one of them, indeed, but several By Margery Wells spreading over its area. The color of this gown is a cream yellow, one of the lighter tones tn which Kasha cloth finds its bestexpression, “here is, in- deed, no trimming at all, for the bur- den of the design falls upon the qual- ity of the material plus the beauty of its cut and shaping done by a de- signer who knows what she ts about and how to place her efforts to make them show the best. Then Shoes Come In for Attention. Shoes promise to take a much more active part in fashion life than they have done for some time past. There are all sorts of indications of this. From Paris come kid boots that are cut and fitted to charm the eye and to bring these extremities of our at- tire right into the limelight. We have begun to take notice too—of that there is ttle doubt when you look about at the beribboned and pompomed varieties of slippers that have already made their appearance. From Paris come the boots that you see on the costume photographs on this page. They are fringed and slit, and all sorts of interesting things are done to them which have not been done in the past, as far as we remem- ber. We may think they look a little outre for our uses, but then we would have thought that about the strapped ones we wear now if we could have looked upon them three years back. Who knows but we may be wearing these decorative affairs on our feet in less than three years to come? And these booties or slippers or whatever they are called, are done in all colors. Preferably, they match the gown. Or they are made in some highly contrasting color which either harmonizes with the trimming of the costume or serves to set off the gown in some unusual manner, By Janet Winslow event has happened tn her life and, for that reason {f for no other, all her to sult the various types of dressing which have been adopted in this new fashion scheme, No longer can we be carelessly informal about the dress- ing of our hair, Now, if we would move in the best circles, we must look to its grooming and shaping with eapecial care, for every type of girl and of costume has its coiffure espe- clally allotted to it according to the newer fashion dictates On this page are shown three of them—the classic Psyche in all its traditional form, the frizzly, sweety manner of hair dressing and the plainly combed tresses that roll over the ears and make puffs there to njake the headdress more becoming. Now all this necessity for change in the fixing of one’s hair has just naturally come about with the change in the fashions for clothes, but then, regardless of that, there is a strain in every female creature which makes her temperamentally need a change just once in so often, And the once has come about now > is ready and waiting for 4 surg me way lo make, herself to mt and, perhaps, more alluring. They have ordered the costume and the artist attending to the design of the whole has recom- mended shoes of soft kid to suit that costume. Therefore, the American shoemakers for the smart set, as well as those from Paris, are turning to and making the boots which the artis- tic limits ‘of the newer dresses are de- manding. Of course, they cost a lot of money, but so does everything else that is ultra smart. And the general opinion is, that if we must have longer skirts, why then we will turn that con- tingency into am advantage for our- selves and we will draw attention to our pretty feet and ankles by this totally new and original method. Hats Turn Up--Turn Down. Out of the mass of winter head- gear there come two types of hats which have every stamp of befng and continuing to be leaders. They aro the ones that turn back, showing, nevertheless, a wide expanse of brim, and those that turn down, showing but @ very small quantity of brim One type is worn by the woman sit- ting down in the picture. She has chosen that little, round, mushroom shape with a high crown and a almple trimming held tightly around the sides of that crown. The other picture shows the wide and flaring brim that turns away from the face and 1s so apparently becoming to certain types otf women. The width at the sides is one of the newer features which can be counted upon to carry over Into the new season because {t has been so extremely popular during this one. aes eae es Reiter oe wae oe eens Sc Fe Sa Seen Coiffures in the Latest Manner friends and all who meet her catch the short space of time covered by the buoyancy of her spirit and, a half width of one season, Nature catching the spirit, take a new in- would not chime in with such a pro- terest in her also.
