As each company appeured it was generously and heartily applauded; and not without reason, for as they stepped out to the musie of brass bands the men in their full dress uniforms made a splendid appearance. At the conclusion of the march and inspection, and when the several companies were headed for their respective fire-houses, there was an alarm of fire for a blaze which already had galned considerable headway in a Chinese re: rant on North Main Street. The entire department was on the scene, and several lines of hose laid, before the fire gongs had ceased ringing, The t that they were in dress uniform did not hamper the work any; each wan did his full duty and some were over- ne by smoke, So, on parade day, this Port Chester F. D. gave the best kind of proof of its efficiency and that the applause of the multi- tude was merited,—-Ernest F. Reld, No. 34 Davis Street, Rye, N. Y. I--SPECIAL PRIZE
