oe se Nath nat HT PRET I ae «LETTER TO HARDING “SETS MAJOR BACK OD FILES IN RANK Court Martial De Beorives Nich- olson of Seniority in Army List. CAMP DIX, N, J., June 6.—Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson, about whose head has raged a military tur- moil since he wrote a letter to Pres- ident Harding tn February charging that “Prussianism” exists in the reg- ular army, has been found guilty of of the regula- martial board at cal violation by a court Camp Dix On the more serious charges In- volving his discipline and integrity he was acquitted on all specifica- tions. The accused earlier in the day had acknowledged fully his in- dorsement to the President's letter, so that the findings of the court are regarded by his frierds in the ser- vice as a signa! victory. As a ~-nalty for violation of the 96th Article of War in writing and publishing the President's letter, Major Wheeler-Nicholson was sen- tenced by the Court to a fine of fifty files. This means he is put back in the line of promotion behind fifty other Majors whom he now ranks. The decision of the court was an- nounced early, within an hour after the court was closed to discuss the case, The case finally reached the trial board through legal skirmishes be- tween counsel. Much of the credit for the acquittal is due to the skilful handling of the accused Major's case by Major Godfrey R. Fowler of the 26th Infantry, his military counsel. teatime BRITISH CHEER AMERICA, Lest Message of Good Will Ie Received With Enthasiaam, LONDON, June 6.—H. N.
