Years and years ago when Garaghty, now supervising director for Para. mount, was a struggling writer im Rushville, Ind., Blythe, already one of the country's most Widely read newspaper writers, took time to write the then unknown reporter a note ad- vising him to go to New York and get a newspaper job. Garaghty did and succeeded. From that moment he has been trying to meet and thank Blythe for the tip. Yesterday for the first time their paths crossed and Tom said: “Hello, Sam. Much 'bilged!’" “Hello, Tom,'’ answered Blythe. “You're welcome!’ Then they parted. TAKE YOUR CHOICE. One-half of the South Sea Islands doesn’t know, nor care, how the other half lives. This is proved conclusively in Betty Compson’s latest film, “The Bonded Woman.” To most of us the words “South Sea Islands'' bring up a picture of hula-hula girls in shredded wheat skirts and dimples; a langorous, in- tense blue sea; soft, un@tdating sands; flower-laden breezes as soft as the breath of an angel and — That’s just what the first part of the film showe. John Bowers, ax the leading man, finds all the enchantments and a lot of cocoanut moonshine and is making right merry when Miss Compson, as the heroine, whisks him away to another island sans women, sans rum, sans everything but a great, calming quiet—and there reforms him. We'd sorter hate to start out look- ing for our island of dreams and run afoul of this latter barren dot in the South Seas—it would be an awful disappointment.
