8 MEN, 2 WOMEN. HELD IN ROBBERY OF §25000 FUR Falling Elevator Trapped De- tectives and Prisoners in Basement, Eight men taken by Detective Ser- geants Shields, Murphy, McGuire and Sy. Begley of the East 12¢th Street Sta- * tion, ina raid on an apartment at No. 600 West 138d Street, were held with- out bail by Magistrate Ryttenberg in Harlem Court to-day. They are charged with complicity in the robbery of $28,000 worth of furs from the shop of 8. and M. Sandberg, No. 1815 Mad- feon Avenue. The detectives told the Magistrate they thought they could connect some of the prisoners with other crimes as well. Helen Eaton and Evelyn King, young women, in whose apartment the men were found, were held on a gen- eral charge of incorrigibility. They Were sent to the Florence Crittenton Home. The detec said they did not think the prisoners had anything to do with an accident to the elevator in the building which caused two detectives and ten prisoners to be penned in the basement of the build- ing for half an hour, until the car was chopped open. ‘The detectives said in court that Lee had been identified as one of a band of robbers who held up patrons of a cabaret recently; Carlson was needed as a witness in acider saloon murder, and Lubby was known to have been friendly with men charged with u hold-up in East 40th Street. The men said/they were Thomas Lowry, twenty-three, No. 1708 Park Avenue; Lawrence Viscerdi, twenty- two, No, .35 East 12th Street; Frank Drago, twenty-one, No. 2452 Second Avenue; William Lee, twenty-five. No, 161 West 118th Street; Salvatore Marra, forty-four, No. 400 East 11th Street; John Carlson, twenty-one, No. 600 West 133d Street; Jack Wolf, twenty-thre., Hammonton, N, J.,and Richard Lubbey, twenty-one, No. 65 ‘West 119th Street.
