By Frank H. Warren, For some the opera season does not actually start until the petite soprano Lucrezia Bori steps onto the stage as Mim) in “La Bohemé." This was ac- complished last evening before a large and enthustastic gatheing. Miss Bori ‘was in fine voca, condition for her season's first appearance, and pro- eeoded with her familiar interpreta- tion of the flower girl's pathetic story. She had excellent assistance from Mario Chamlee, the young American tenor, who was singing Rodolfo for the first time here. His opening aria ‘was well delivered, in a clear, fresh} voice, and he and Miss Bort, because of their youth and personality, lent ‘added charm to these popular roles. Another interesting artist was Yvonne DrArie in the part of Musetta, Miss DArle is a local giri, a not too plump land pleasing person, who puts plenty of ginger into her acting. She leads all present Musettas in vivacity and archness. Others in the cast were Messrs, Didur, Ananian, Audisio, Scotti, Rothier, Malatesta and Res- chiglian, Papi conducted. WORLD WANTS WORK W Thank You 'HE closing of the old year and the coming of the new affords an opportune time to thank the people of New York for the coopera- tion they have given to the workers in the telephone organization during 1921. As New York knows. we are doing our utmost to complete the largest and most diffi- cult task we have ever faced and we can say with pride that we have made headway. The quality of the city’s telephone service has been raised to a standard even higher than it was before the war. Our construction program has been pushed along as fasts apparatus and materials could be secured and installed. New records were made in 1921. The accomplishment of these results has been greatly aided by the knowledge that the people of the Metropolis appreciate how great and how complex our task is and have given us generous encouragement as we have gone ahead with our work. And so in extending to the people of New York our good wishes for the holiday season, we express not only our appreciation of the cooperation of the past, but ask for your continued support, which will be an aid and an inspiration to us throughout the New Year.
