THE EVENING WORLD, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 16, AMATEUR BOXING TOURNEY PRODUCES SEVEN NEW CHAMPI By Bud Counihan FRANK ADAMS, TRAF RETAINS HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE Seven New Boxers Come to Front in Other Classes of A. A. U. Bouts for New York State Titles at Garden. By Robert Boyd. HB calibre of amateur boxcrs that competed in the New York State championships this year, collectively speaking, was much bet- ter than in 1920, but the individual champions in the eight different lasses were not as good as the title holders of the past year. Frank Adams, the New York po- Boeman, was the only champion of 1920 that annexed a title in the suo- cessful tournament thot has just been brought to a close at Madison Square Garden, Adams won the light heavy- weight title in 1920 and this year fhe was the best in the heavyweight eanks. Willle Singer of the 924 Street Y. ML H. A jumped from the bantam- weight into the featherweight class end defeated Edwin Riley of the St. Christopher Club in three slashing rounds of the final bout in that class. The former Metropolitan 118-pound title holder just barely defeated the aturdy negro. Hiley fought the New York southpaw hard all the way, making the battle one of the most in- @eresting of the final night. Charles McKenna, unuttached, de- | feated the rugged, stiff-punching Charles Kuay of the Montauk A. C. in the final of the 175-pound class by @ slight margin. McKenna, a long, wangy clever boxer, offset Kuay's rushing tactics and hard punching ‘with his clever, clean, straight punch- mg. McKenna hes been deating most of his oponents handily of lato, He is one of the real finds of the Present search tho A. A. U. is con- | ducting to fill the ranks of the “simon | pares” of last year, the good ones vt | ‘whom have turned professional. Kuay was dangerous throughout this bout with his terrific punching. Time and egain he tried to shoot in a hay~ maj but McKenna was a crafty fig! and outpointed the stroas| Kuay enough to win the judges’ award.
