For it knows that tender and bleeding gums are the forerunners of Pyorrhea, that dread dis- ease which afflicts four out of five people over forty. If the disease is unchecked, the gum line recedes, the teeth decay, loosen and fall out, or must be ex- tracted to rid the system of the Pyorrhea poisons which seep into the system and wreck the health. These poisons often cause rheumatism, nervous disorders, anaemia, and other ills. To avoid Pyorrhea, visit your dentist often for teeth and gum inspection, and use Forhan's For the Gums. Forhan’s For the Gums will prevent Pyorrhea or check its en if used in time and used consistently. inary dentifrices cannot do this. Agente, 90 West St., New York Road Beds- Old d N | “Bayer’ on Genuine Aspirin—say “Bayer” OCK ballast was unknown in the early days of American railroads, The tracks, consisting of wooden stringers plated with iron straps, rested lightly on the earth, Little wonder that even a seven-ton locomotive running at fitteen miles an hour proved too heavy for such a flimsy foundation! Today the roadbed of the Lackawanna is built and tested to withstand the tremendous strain of 200-ton locomo- tives speeding at 40 to 70 miles an hour. Most of the rails over which you travel on this road weigh more than 100 pounds to the yard. They rest on creosoted ties literally anchored to the ground by ballast and are held in place, not by hammered spikes which work loose, but by huge screws driven in with pneumatic machines. In this way the well known holding power of the screw is utilized to prevent the rails from buckling or spreading. There are some 7,000,000 ties in the Lackawanna Sys- tem, of which half a million are renewed annually. The skill required in building a road bed of this type is equal- led only by the eternal vigilance necessary to maintain it. Every mile between New York and Buffalo illustrates the efficiency which has earned for the Lackawanna the reputation of being “Mile for mile the most highly de- veloped railroad in America.” LACKAWANNA LIMITED CHICAGO LIMITED — BUFFALO.
