Landlords who are contemplating a @emand upon their tenants for In ereased rent beginning Oct. 1 will be} jnterested in a warning uttered by Municipal Justice John R. Davies in the 9th District Court to-day. He reminded landlords that emergency rent laws will remain in | force until 1922; that prices of ma- terial and labor are decreasing and will continue to decrease; that a fair basis of computation of reasonable rent has been established by the courts, and that increases will not he tolerated unless the landlord can show that they are justified by higher | city taxes and interest rates. Tenants receiving notice that they will be required to pay Increased rent beginning Oct. 1 need not sign a lease if they consider the rent unfair. All they have to do {s notify the landlord that they will not pay the increase demanded but will leave the matter of the fairness of the rent to the courts. They cannot be dispossessed if they serve this notification Tenants who are notified at least four months before the expiration of a lease that they may be dispossessed as holdovers unless they notify the landlord or his agent within thirty days of the expiration of the lease of their intention to renew at the old notification, rental must give such personally or by registered mall in urder to be insured of court protection, > GETS SECOND REPRIEVE.
