HOLDUP SUSPECT KILLED BY ACCIDENT Police Captain's Pistol Discharged in Scuffle Caused Death of New Dorp Farmer. The slaying of Antonio Como, a New Dorp farmer and father of seven children, by Police Capt. Abfaham Stewart, will not result in a charge againat Capt. Stewart, It was announced to-day by District Attorney Malloy of Staten Ial- and, He was convinced, he said, that the shooting was accidental. Joseph Pietro of New Dorp and An- tonlo Desanto of.Dongan Hills. who were with Como when he was shot and who were held as material witnesses, were rearrested to-day and held in $1,000 bail for examination Friday, charged with attempted highway robbery. Frank Murphy of West Brighton, driving: an automobile in which were two other men and three women, told Capt. Stewart jast night that three men tried to hold them up. The men drove back to the scene, accompanied by Capt. Stewart, who sprang from the car when the three men were sighted. Investigation indicated that Como and hik companions merely wanted a ride home when they were believed to have tried to hold up Murphy's party. But Come, mistaking Capt. Stewart's ac- tion in seizing him, grappled for the policeman’s pistol and in the struggle it was discharged, blowing off the end of one of Capt. Stewart's fingers and shooting Como. ave ee eT JURY COMPLETED IN GAMBLING TRIAL Weeks Charges Joe Cassidy Got $12,000 to $15,000 for Nassau County “Protection.” Van Albert Potter of Rockville Centre, manager of the Guaranty Tile & Trust Company of that village, was the last Juror accepted to-day in the trial for conspiracy to permit gambling in Nas- sau Country of Supervisor George W.
